How YOU will survive nature disaster and financial meltdown.

I personally witnessed what can happen within a very short period of time when food is no longer available to the public. I was in my early twenties, living in Paris, France. Because of an extended truckers’ strike, the food stores were cleared out within 24 hours of the announcement. Within five days, normally law-abiding citizens took to the streets and began threatening anyone who had food… Those with no food quickly crossed the line of sanity and started desperately looking to take food from those who had it by any means necessary. These events were never properly covered by the news media (what a surprise!), but I saw firsthand how uncivilized a so-called “modern country” can become within a matter of days because of a lack of food. If I had not witnessed this myself, I probably would not believe this could happen so easily.

I pray you are wrong that we cannot recover the great nation of America. I also pray that electing Romney will stave things off long enough for me to get better prepared.

“I pray you are wrong that we cannot recover the great nation of America. I also pray that electing Romney will stave things off long enough for me to get better prepared.”

I spend a good deal of my time researching the state of our economy and other countries plus the hot spots of the world. I also have an old time friend who was a bank President and his wife was a bank Vice President. Plus, I have researched why other countries in history who were on the top of the heap, crashed. Every one crashed due to overextending - they didn’t have enough money to keep going so revolt against the government happened when they ran out of money and they crashed.

I have had to come to the conclusion that our country can’t keep going much longer.

Benjamin Franklin knew what would happen when he said, “When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.”

I sincerely believe we have reached that end.

The trouble is every country is over-extended to some extent. Take away oil revenue and Russia’s economy dies. Americans stop spending and China’s economy is in the crapper.

So when it goes it will be everything at once and people struggle for the remains, leading to world war III. At least that’s my theory.

Unfortunately, I believe the same. As the "gimmes" grow in our nation and around the world, I believe there is no turning back. Morality, values, principles, and self-accountability is losing ground everyday.

That said, I'm 62 years young and willing to be cannon fodder if the SHTF, since I'm not a trained grunt in ground combat. I truly think I will see a revolution, whether from politics or racism or class warfare. It's coming and going to be really ugly. There is no nation on this rock that has as many patriotic gun owners and many WILL defend their Constitutional heritage to their dying breath. I would be honored to walk point.

I sincerely hope this will never happen, but it will take a miracle to change the mentality of the "gimmes". I just don't see it happening. Good luck, Sir. Maybe we'll both die before it happens, but then I have children who will have to deal with it.

“Maybe we'll both die before it happens,...”

You said you are 62. Compared to me, you are a youngster. I am a prepper and will have a comfortable personal world if the rest of the world collapses. I don't intend for a collapse to kill me. I am female and anyway, too old for the front lines, but I could medically attend you if you were wounded. Just yell out when wounded and I'll be there.

You and I have lived through the best US years. Now, we are facing the worst, perhaps the downfall of this country. It is terribly sad, but reality is reality.

Any questions?

Yes. Do you call the police afterwards, or just start shoveling if they don't show up to take a report within an hour?

I'm a mite gray around the muzzle for hopping around in the boonies for any length of time, too. Which is why I have been working on some long distance skills, requiring a less tactical approach to movement.

Similarly, pick a skill or two which might be arcane but important (cobbler, for instance, but any of a dozen half-century 'obsolete' skills) and learn what you can. Practice. Our only real chances of survival come from being able to give something to a community, not just as individuals.

In the long run, people are going to have to band together to get by--and to defend what they rebuild.

A place to get storage items such as buckets: Uline.

I have no idea about costs and where else such things as buckets and containers can be had, but I order from these guys for most things.
