'My Family Thinks I'm Crazy': Swedish My Little Pony Fan
The Local ^ | 7 Oct 12

Hundreds of My Little Pony fans, including a Swedish toy store worker, gathered for a special convention at a hotel in Long Eaton, UK over the weekend.

"It's my first pony convention. I collected them when I was younger but when I was 10 I stopped," Swede Rebecca Lindahl, 21, told British local paper the Nottingham Post.

Lindahl attended the two-day event, called UK PonyCon 2012, together with a friend from Sweden.

Lindahl said she started collecting My Little Pony toys again this year because she "wanted a new hobby."

"I had 20 ponies from my childhood and, after just a year of collecting, I have about 150 now," she told the paper.

"I've spent a couple of hundred pounds in the last year, but it's worth it. It's my money to spend."

"My friends think I’m crazy anyway and my family love it."

At the convention, women in their twenties to forties talked about their love for toy ponies, reports the Nottingham Post.

Many were dressed in My Little Pony t-shirts or fancy-dress outfits. Some wore brightly coloured wigs.

The conference also included a series of specialist talks, screenings and an extensive display of tens of thousands of the collectable toys.

Dozens of male fans, who proudly call themselves Bronies, raved about the My Little Pony series at the convention.

My Little Pony was first launched in 1983 by toy maker Hasbro, and has been relaunched several times since, inspiring an animated feature-length film and three TV cartoon series.

Her family would be correct.

Doesn't mean she shouldn't spend her money the way she wants to. I know a guy that collects postage stamps.

Are you sure that's not an Obama rally?

Far as I know, most if not all the pony fans are also Obama fans.

The dems seem to have a thing for ponies. And skittles.

This is her way of growing up. She spends her own money on the hobby rather than her parents’ money. She’s having a good time.

As a professional square dance caller one might see me as playing “ring around the rosie” when I tell the dancers to circle left. I see it as preserving and promoting a great American folk activity.

Crazy is okay these days I guess.

Imagine these people after the SHTF. These people will probably be the first to go I bet.

Oh, but the pony folks *are* grown up. These are not kids we’re talking about.

A story from the “Brony” wars. . .

My oldest daughter is in college, and was wearing an anime T-shirt (Neon Genesis: Evangelion, to be exact. . ). An obnoxious “Brony” boy was berating her for her “bad choice” of entertainment.

He then started eating some Skittles. She floored him (and forced him to spit them out. . .) by saying:

“You **KNOW** where Skittles come from, right ?? They’re Unicorn Poop. . .”

And everyone else in earshot was ROFLing. . .

My Little Pony has apparently grown up to my little neurosis.

It’s OK if you’re a girl or a woman ‘cause it’s a girl thing,as long as you don’t go crazy. I like Barbie dolls, especially the ones in the fancy dresses that are released for the holidays.

As far as the guys are concerned,no.

“My Little Pony has apparently grown up to my little neurosis.”

My daughter in college told me about the “My Little Pony” phenomenon and how it was quite the rage with a cult following, and encouraged me to watch it. I don’t think I made it past 5 minutes. Propaganda, brainwashing, social engineering, sublims...sheesh!

They might be a little weird, but they're nothing compared with Hello Kitty fans.

Back in the 50's and 60's I used to collect baseball cards. Fortunately I finally outgrew that childish hobby and threw them away.........
