Washington boy finds whiskey in Mountain Dew

A 13-year-old in Shoreline said he took a swig of his Mountain Dew and it turned out to be whiskey. His parents say the bottle was sealed and looked legit.

“Except for the color it looks like a fully functional Mountain Dew,” said Marie Grant, mother.

Marcus Olson immediately spit it out.

“It tasted a little bitter. It didn’t taste like Mountain Dew at all,” he said.

His mother said her son drank at least a shot. Grant is furious. She claims she’s only getting the run around from both Pepsi and the store where she bought it.

“They say well send us in a bottle, here’s some coupons for free Pepsi products and oops. Safeway, I got a letter from their human resources, and they say they aren’t accountable for anything. That it is a vendor issue and to deal with them,” said the mother.

The family fears other bottles might end up in the wrong hands and go unnoticed.

“And you have a staggering 8-year-old down the road,” said Grant.

The family plans to stop buying Mountain Dew.

Heh ... the only way you could ever get me to drink out of a Mountain Dew bottle is if there WAS whiskey in it instead of that putrid soda.

I guess tastes vary. Mountain Dew used to be my favorite drink but now it is of all things the Wal-Mart copy which I like just a bit more.

Mountain Dew was ok until they took the carbonation out. When was it, the mid 1990’s?

I have no idea. I have not had one for a while but am sure it still had carbonated water in it.

I just remember that you couldn’t pound a can without being forced to stop. Then, you could. (It’s still carbonated now, just not as much).

I hope it was straight whiskey, not a Mountain Dew/whiskey mix... (shudder)

Yeah, so the Mountain Dew "looked funny" and it turns out it was whiskey?

How did they determine that? Who would be psychotic enough to keep sipping an obviously tainted drink? Did they have Jethro Bodine taste it and give his opinion?

Yep, them's corn squeezin's allright!

Are these people related to the guy whose brakes on his Toyota failed and also couldn’t shut off his car while driving 90?

Mountain Dew used to be a slang term for moonshine whiskey.

Then a soda pop company took the name and made a soda out of it back in the 1960s.

So maybe the kid’s Mountain Dew was REAL “Mountain Dew”.
