Today while working my shift in the emergency room, an old lady was brought in very sick and in fact near death. I did my usual workup and evaluation and attempted to administer life saving treatment. It was my plan to admit this woman to the hospital. I found out a little later that this same woman had been a patient here just slightly more than 2 weeks ago with a DIFFERENT DIAGNOSIS. I was told that if this woman was admitted, the hospital would not be paid.
The new Medicare rule now is that if the same Medicare patient is re-admitted to the hospital within 30 days, the hospital will not be paid. When they first started this nonsense they said this only applied to patients with the same diagnosis. Now they have "expanded" the rule to include re-admissions for any reason.
So if you're in the hospital for pneumonia, and 3 weeks later, you break your leg.......too bad. Medicare will not pay the hospital to fix your leg.

God works in mysterious ways. When this mother was an infant undergoing heart surgery few thought she would make it to child-bearing age, much less have seven pregnancies. I have learned what true pro-life means along the way. Now no one would say she was wise in a practical sense to become pregnant considering the circumstances, but as I say God works in mysterious ways. I will stop stealing Lucyt’s thread.
Meanwhile, neither presidential candidate is against the death panels.
Sorry, I did not make myself clear. Mom beat the blood poisoning, but VRE (vanco resistant) took her down. There was absolutely no other antibiotic that was effective on the culture not even Vanco.
My Dad contacted a fungal infection of the lungs(he already had chronic bronchitis and fibrosus) and Vanco helped him to recover enough to tell the death proponents what his wishes were. He wanted to continue to fight, but agreed to their stipulation that he would not be put back on the ventilator.
However, they banded him with a code purple instead of code yellow. I got that corrected, but it took 3 hrs. In the interim his lung Dr. visited and pulled the Vanco. The nurse told me that taking Vanco too long wasn’t good, and the original course of treatment period was over.
Turns out that was probably a mistake. Lung Dr. read the purple code, and stopped anti biotics based on that. It was 3 days before my Cardio Dr. came back and sorted it all out.
Shortly after, he slipped into coma and died 3 days later.
His lung Dr. is one of those that thinks if a patient is elderly you really should not torture them with treatment. I told him that my Dad served in WWII and was a volunteer firefighter, and volunteer EMT.
Having risked his life on behalf of others on numerous occasions, if he wanted to fight, then I felt that he had more than earned the right to have his wishes honored.
Someday I hope this pulmonologist learns the error of his thinking.
Andrei Bulba, I am so sorry for your loss. No one should be treated that way. I’m praying every night for Romney to win and wipe obamacare off the face of the earth. He said he would and we have to make sure he does.
I just got an email from our DIL (ER nurse) and her take on the link:
“Yep, it’s all true. Now you know why I keep saying it’s all going to fall down around us.
People who are dependent on the medical system will die. There’s no sugar coating that.”
Very scary to face it.
I’m very sorry this happened to your family member and I sympathize with your loss. People had no idea what they were voting for when they supported socialized medicine. They had no idea of the dark side of it, its real cost.

How disgusting is it that we even have to HAVE a discussion like this? The libs have cheapened life by allowing abortions to be commonplace. Now it seems they’re *toughening up* the younger generation so they’re not appalled at seeing how grandma and grandpa are left to die.
When did this happen to your family member?
When did this happen to your mom?
Trying to get a timeframe here......
Similar fishy stuff went on with my mom back in 2002 when she was deathly ill.... she had a couple things that by themselves would land anybody in hospital, yet they pushed to have her sent to a rehab place....
Last I heard the “wait time” was five years.
Any body wanting to shift assets better have someone they trust.... and hope they don’t get seriously ill till that five years has run out.

And so it will be as American culture becomes more and more leftist in its orientation. Hey, we’re not Russians, or Chinese, or Germans. No Gulags for us. No forced evacuation of cities to make flowers bloom. No concentration camps. No, we’re Americans. It’s a choice. It’s argued by lawyers, decided by judges, dressed with academic language, and supported by an army of activists and bureaucrats. The killings are hidden behind a door marked “your freedom to choose.” In that regard, we’ve actually out-Germaned the Germans by cleansing our culture of death. We’ve killed tens of millions of the unborn, and they’re dealt with behind brightly painted doors and disposed of with the highest regard for sanitation. Now we’re going to start killing the old with cleansing language and words about choice and freedom, and we’ll build thousands of killing centers filled with flowers and cheerful employees, and commercials will tell us that we have the freedom to choose our time of death, which, by the way, might as well be soon, since all that medicine is expensive and here’s some weed, or, better yet, opiates, to make your final moments on Earth a pleasantly inebriated last testament. It’s for the good of society. Thanks!
God help us.

You must be talking about euthanasia or it's prettier name *death with dignity* (puke) which is already legal in Oregon and Washington from what I recall. This is not the way the founders envisioned the country. Not at all.
