Was that the space shuttle that just went by? Garnering attention that could make even a movie star blush, thousands of people watched in awe as a quintessential icon of the space age was towed through the streets of Los Angeles. After landing at LAX airport late last month, the shuttle Endeavour was carefully loaded onto rolling trailers and maneuvered down roads and across bridges to the California Science Center, 20 kilometers away. To many, there was a majesty to the voyage that was beyond description, inspiring people to line the LA streets and wait at windows and balconies to witness and photograph this once-in-a-lifetime event. Narrowly avoiding some buildings and trees, the retired shuttle made it safely to its new home and will soon be ready for permanent display. Although the journey took place over three days, it has been shortened in the above artistic time-lapse video to about three minutes.
Enjoy watching.
Hoped you might like this for your ping list.
That is rather cool.
My parents’ neighbor helped design the instrument panel on the shuttles back in the day, so as a kid I was fortunate enough to have seen the first shuttle on the ground before it ever launched.
More recently, my sister and her boyfriend got the hook-up to attend a special event at LAX while the shuttle was there and they were able to get into the 747 and take pictures. My favorite shot is of her sitting in the copilot’s seat with a guy in an aviation uniform on the ground visible out the window.
How depressing. The space program got cannibalized to feed the welfare state. Thanks Obama.
Thank you, hadn’t seen that, very neat.
How neat that had to be!!!
Thanks UCANSEE2!
But how does this help the mooseSlimes?
I’d rather see it in orbit around the earth than see it on my block.
This goes back to LBJ. I remember all the caterwauling about how we had problems right here on earth and shouldn't be spending money on space...
Well, we spent money subsidizing poor people and it has been wildly successful.
We now have more and fatter poor people than ever, with no end in sight.
...And they get those neat, free phones, too!!
Dittos UC..
What a travesty eh?.....turning THE SPACE SHUTTLE... a sacred monument to AMERICAN brains and achievement over to callie loonies..god.
Please don’t use the Lord’s name in vain...
OMG!! THANKS!!!
Just another illegal alien transport? You won’t find that thing rolling over into a ditch even if it is overloaded with “cargo”.
And it only cost $10,000,000 to do this.
Houston/Clearlake Texas got ripped off.
I saw a space shuttle fly over my house one evening at sundown.
We will always have poor people because we have been importing them for decades. Today we are told that we MUST have foreign immigrants to do work in America that “Americans” apparently won’t do (for below minimum wage) like working in kitchens, working in fields, working in construction, well, basically WORKING.
America needs to get off it's largesse and mow it's own lawns.
The only reason we have so many poor is so certain political interests can stuff the ballot box.
