COCOA, Fla.- A Florida city council said an ordinance that could result in saggy pants wearers being fined will not take effect until next year so the community can be informed.
The Cocoa City Council voted 3-1 Tuesday in favor of the ordinance, which would impose $25 fines on wearers of saggy pants who previously received verbal warnings, Florida Today reported Wednesday.
Councilman Clarence Whipple, the sole opposing vote on the ordinance, said he sought to postpone voting on the ordinance after residents raised concerns about profiling and selective enforcement. His motion was not seconded.
"We need to make sure our Cocoa Police Department enforces this ordinance in all the districts," Whipple said. "I'm asking that we educate the public prior to adopting this ordinance."
The council agreed to delay enforcement of the ordinance until Jan. 1 to allow the public to be educated about the new rules before fines are imposed.
If baggy pants are outlawed, only outlaws will have baggy pants....
Oh, wait....
"bout time too"
I think the saggy pants are about as cool as a swallow tailed straight jacket but I also think a person should be able to wear them if they want to.
It is easier for cops to chase down the thugs wearing baggy pants. Don’t ban baggy pants. It is funny to see the thugs do a face plant when they trip on their pants. Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, lookin like a fool witcha pants on the ground.
Slobs will be slobs....
Hey parents....How about doing your job...instead of raising cr** citizens.
They can’t do that, that’s racisst!
You think it should be OK for people to walk around in public with most of their underwear showing? So, would you be OK with people walking around in their underwear with no pants at all?
Actually I doubt it is illegal to walk around in your underwear tho I am not OK with that, just don’t think it should be illegal.
I am talking about long boxer shorts which seems to be what these kids wear.
I agree with you.
I personally think the people who wear this fad all look incredibly stupid.
But I don’t see any compelling government reason to legally “ban” incredibly bad fashion taste, when it is not actually obscene.
Most schools already have a dress code.
Businesses are free to post signs regarding appropriate attire on their premises.
On public streets...
Don’t like it?
Either don’t look, look and frown, or look and laugh out loud.

OK and constitutional are two different things.
One of my grandsons wears those dumb pants...I tell him when he is at my house to pull up his pants cause I am not interested in his underwear or butt crack....
