Obama Gives Up, Goes Back to DC to Work On His Exit Package
My Fertile Brain | 30 October 2012 | Myself

Posted on 10/30/2012 11:47:37 AM PDT by Steely Tom

Let me tell you something boys and girls:

Obama has given up. He knows it's over.

He made this decision in Florida when he decided to "come back to Washington to direct the Sandy relief effort."

Poppycock.

He knows he's going down, and he came back to DC to (a) spare himself the anguish of having his narcissistic supply on the campaign trail, and (b) to plot the course of his final 83 das in office.

Part of the latter is this: what kind of deal is he going to be able to make to get himself and his cronies off the hook for any number of bombs he's now got ticking under himself. These include all the ones we know about - Benghazi, F&F, the "green" companies - plus (I'm sure) many others.

How does he get the best deal for himself on these? Who among his inner circle does he include in the deal?

The "deal" includes many elements. Obama still has many cards to play between election night and 20-Jan-2013.

Obviously, he has the pardon pen. A biggie.

He also has all kinds of nasty things he can do with Presidential power. He can, for instance, bargain over what he does with the vast amount of classified information he has direct control over. He can reclassify much of this at his whim, on the basis of an Executive Order.

He can make things Top Secret that are currently Secret. And he can convert anything he wants to Unclassified as well.

He can - and, I'm betting, will - play hardball with this against the Republicans in the House and Senate who are coming after him on all kinds of issues.

Nasty, but one must expect nasty from this guy, who cares not a whit for the United States and never has.

Another thing to consider: Do we really want to "go after him" for everything, even after he's out of office?

Making kidnappers or rapists eligable for the death penalty simply increases the chance that they'll see no upside to letting their victims live once the criminal knows he has no chance for escape.

Same here. Do we benefit more - as a country - by letting Obama and his claque swim away, or do we continue to press for justice after they're gone?

I go back and forth about this. Sometimes I think that he is not interested in winning. At other times I think that he just has no idea how to work hard at something.

Which ever the case, I have had the feeling for a while now that he is just phoning it in.

Given his record, I imagine he’s busy contacting foreign embassies, trying to negotiate asylum for him and the wife after the election.

LOL if Baraq loses, I think he’ll live primarily in NYC (like BJ) and have a frequent gig on PMSNBC.

I have an alternative theory. Perhaps he realizes big mo is against him...and he realizes being out on the trail isn't getting him any more votes. The only ones who show up are deep blue supporters.

Maybe he thinks its to his strategic advantage to stay at home and get all positive press...and by staying home he will actually gain votes.

Just a thought.

Someone in his campaign may have gotten a clue that a split screen of him campaigning next to one of a natural disaster wasn’t a great photo-op for re-election.

Especially since he has been AWOL all during his Presentcy at important times either golfing, vacationing, fundraising etc. In fact did the 2008 campaign ever end? I think not.

Obama likes the bling. That's about it. That's the only aspect of the job he cares about. The rest is a hassle.

Didn't start out that way. He liked the idea of turning millions of lives upside down. He liked the idea of sticking it to white America. He liked the fawning adulation he got from his peeps, the low-information voters, the Obama-phone users.

He just didn't expect any push-back. It was fun as long as the target was immobilized. Problem is, the target didn't stand still, and eventually it started to fight back. Fun quotient went downhill rapidly after that.

The President, like any chief executive, has much less raw power in fact than how it appears to an outsider. He never has the resources he needs to get done what he wants to get done. He has to use his personality to get people who don't like him to cooperate with him, and in order to do that, he has to be prepared to compromise, to offer the person on the other side of the table something he wants in return for something else.

Obama thinks of his opposition as members of the Ku Klux Klan, as members of the Nazi party, as racist boogie-men. He can't compromise with them because he hates them.

This is one reason why he can't get anything done.

Remember that the candidate may keep unspent election funds at the end of the campaign, and he will need to ching for his crib to host his choom gang. He went to Florida to pick up a check, IMHO.

It must have been enough to set him up. Besides, he is probably a stockholder in an arms sale company to sell to the Muslim Brotherhood after he leaves office, along with his hco-owners, I’m thinking.

Besides, he’s got so many, many pardons to sign, a la Clintoon, after the election.

His own private 0mugabe army! Just as well armed, and funded as the US military. Loyal only to him.

The Dems are still working hard on their get out the vote.

The ones who still have a future with their party, sure.

Obama has no future. Benghazi - and other things that are going to come out - are going to make it so.

I’d love to think you’re right, but in the immortal words of Yogi - “It ain’t over till it’s over” and a week is an eternity in politics. Keep in mind that the bulk of the undecided voters are people who are only vaguely aware of the issues, and a lot of them are only vaguely aware that this is planet earth, so if 0bama can portray himself as a leader in post-storm recovery, it could go a long way.

You're right of course. I didn't say our side could go into idle. We have to stay on point right up till we each pull the lever or mark our ballot on election day.

My point is that Obama has packed it in. I suppose that it's possible he could rally a little if he gets the right signals from his staffers, but I think it's going to be all downhill from now on in, and it's going to be pretty hard for him to keep on kidding himself.

But I agree with you. A week's an eternity in politics, and it isn't over till it's over.

My point was that he's back in DC to negotiate over the post-election future. He's going to be looking for how he can maximize his future outcomes and minimize his downside in the out-years. He may try to set things up with one or more foreign governments. He may try to set time-bombs up for Romney, in consultation with other Democrats in Congress, in the states, and in Chicago. He may try to set his friends up with future income streams, or with pardons.

They're for if it's close. If it's a blow-out, they'll all hightail it for home. After they turn in their time sheets, of course.

I am surprised that Obama has not started dressing himself in a Colonel’s uniform and cap with lots of gold braid and medals on his chest, and driving all around the country in a motorcade with flags on the bumpers like Amin did.
