So I received my renewal notice for my C&R FFL (03) yesterday, as it's due to expire in February. I've been religious with my renewals for years, but this year just feels different. I saw that BATFE seal on the envelope and my heart sank a little knowing that they're under this Marxist administration.
My question to FReepers and firearm aficionados is this: should I renew? My feelings are that at some point in the future, firearms are going to be restricted either by international treaty (i.e. UN ATT) or by executive fiat, and I wonder if it would be worth the hassle and the intimidation likely by the BATFE on FFL holders, including those of us who like our Mosins and Mausers.
I've not purchased anything with it in several years nor have I done any restorations or refurbs since 2006. Aside from the "just to have it" aspect, does it make sense for me to keep renewing knowing that it could be used as a registry of doors on which to knock or am I already part of the machine having had one for the last 15 years anyway.
Thoughts?
I lost mine in the asbestos factory fire.....and what i didnt lose there, were lost in that terrible spill my jeep took down that embankment into that vat of wet cement
i am really quite unlucky
they come at you with those buggys all Anabaptist like, taking guns and names like regular city rats
If you have to wonder whether you are already on “the list,” then you are.
Repetitive, expected acts can keep a person under the radar.
They already have your name you are doomed.
Got news for ya: They already have ALL our names.
Got news for ya: They already have ALL our names.
So true.
I renewed my C&R. I’ll eagerly show BATFE my collection of dusty old revolvers, and joyfully express my interest in them, and them only. They are not, IMHO, the type of firearms that will draw the most interest.
Now, those of you with Class III weapons might get a different knock on the door.
That's why they will first pass a law stating that all private sales must be done through an FFL dealer, or you are a felon. Then a law that lost or stolen guns must be reported to the BATF within a few days, or you are a felon. Then when they ban them, they send a letter listing your guns and demanding you turn them over or face prosecution. 98% will comply, leaving the remaining few easy targets.
Don’t take my word for it because I’m from NYC and wouldn’t know the implications, but don’t renew it. You’re already on a few government lists; renewing it won’t add you to another one, because odds are you’re already on a list specifically for that.
You were “on the list” the minute you got the FFL. Too late to escape notice now. Might as well step up and embrace your legal right to renew.
They already have ALL our names.
Yes, which makes OPSEC critical in not getting ambushed.

Yep. And it doesn't matter, really. King George had the names of the guys who signed the Declaration - they made sure of it. I think it works like that. Having your name and doing something about it are two different things.
true enough, and when those large and in charge do decide to “do something about it”, you will find out at 2 in the morning.
Damn skippy on that. Those of us who've been around here for a long time will remember the rampant speculation that FR had a complete shift dedicated to our surveilance over at No Such Agency. There was also speculation that some freepers from that period were really NSA agents surfing along and acting as both informants and disruptors. I wouldn't be surprised if that were still the case only amplified.
