Vanity: Enemy of the State

Posted on 11/24/2012 4:33:34 PM PST by chrisser

My wife and I were at my parents for Thanksgiving, along with my sister.

During dinner conversation, we discovered my sister was an enthusiastic Obama supporter. Unfortunately, the conversation ended up in a long political argument. My parents refused to say how they voted, but it was pretty obvious they're drinking the Koolaide too, along with my brother, who wasn't there.

As you can imagine, I've been thinking a lot about this since. There's more than a little bit of regret I have from the conversation, but beyond that, I think it was the first time I've actually come face to face with the mindset of the other side.

Most of you have probably been there and seen the unbelievable lack of information, complete ignorance of history, acceptance of propaganda as fact, and just the stupidity and immorality that otherwise good people can accept.

I'm saddened by the whole episode, but more than that, I'm more than a little afraid. I can't help but think about the history of Nazi and pre-Nazi Germany, of the Russian and Chinese "revolutions", and the other repeated examples of the horrors of socialism and the relative ease with which their countries' populations accepted them, even with enthusiasm.

Again, this is probably old hat to a lot of us here.

But, as I was out in the garage, patching up one of our old cars for the 3rd or 4th time, trying to keep it driveable so we don't have to spend money on a new one (even though we must be "the rich", since our taxes are going to go up even more), I had a lot of time to think, and I'm faced with the reality that, someday in the future, I am likely to be an enemy of the state.

I know I'm not going to be a member of the ruling elite in the coming new order. Nor will I be one of their supporters. That means I'll either be a member of the vocal dissent that gets killed off early on, the resistance that gets hunted down later (I suspect this is where I'll end up), or I can chose to be a slave to the state - and I refuse to be the latter.

It's a sobering thought. I love my country. I never thought I would ever take action against her. But I can't help feeling that, at some point, if I value freedom and my rights as an individual, then I will end up her enemy.

Anyone thought along similar lines? If so, how do you deal with it, 'cause I'm pretty darned depressed about the idea.

My mother voted for Obama for the sole reason that she is a single-issue voter over abortion. She was afraid that Romney would overturn Roe v. Wade and ban abortion.

I tried to convince her that 1) Romney can't overturn Roe v. Wade, he has to appoint SCOTUS judges first, and then there has to be a case, 2) overturning Roe v. Wade doesn't "ban abortion," it only puts the issue back to the states to decide, and 3) the state she lives in (Florida) would not vote to ban abortion.

BTW, she's 71.

I can relate, FRiend. I remember having an argument with my parents during the Clinton years, and telling them "I finally realize how Hitler could come to power." And these days, the Clinton years seem like a happy memory!

It's hard to see people we love and (at least partially) respect buy into the socialist lies. Family against family, friend against friend. As I've said before, the Second Civil War has been going on "under the radar" for years; with Obozo's re-election, the time for choosing is closer than ever. I know for some it will be easier than for others -- conservatives who live in very rural, less populated areas won't understand much of the angst that those of us who live in "suburbia" or in cities will go through.

What I believe now, is that all I can do is teach my children the truth of things. It'll be hard. I tell them pretty bluntly, that much if not most of what they learn about the "president" and the government will be lies, and that they'll be bombarded with information that is purely false. I take them to church, teach them to pray, and talk about the lessons given in the bible. I tell them that they need to be brave enough to speak the truth in the face of, what's sure to be, disbelief and mockery. I'm realistic enough to know that they will reject much of what I tell them..... at least, until they're older. All I can do is try, and pray, hope and believe that they will be a part of a generation that returns to our true American roots.

But along with that, my anger and loathing of All Things Leftist is there. And I want my children to learn that as well. I guess some would say it's a sin to teach hatred, but I will anyway, because for me, loving Truth and loving America cannot in any way compromise with the Left. And I will intrinsically HATE the Left until the day I die.

Doesn’t anything get to these people? Detroit? Benghazi? War on Poverty since 1965? Everything’s explained away in their minds except the stereotypes of the rich of the Republicans that seem to be carved in stone?

Thanks for the Jefferson quote.

I’ve thought a lot in the last two days about what the Founders had to go through. It has made me appreciate even more the sacrifices they made and the risks they took.

what pisses me off these “unbelievable lack of information, complete ignorance of history, acceptance of propaganda as fact, and just the stupidity and immorality people” are dragging us with them. It’s like being forced to swim with them in a pond full of alligators when we know the outcome they are oblivious to. They go on living thier lives in a complete coma while we are waiting for the ax to fall. I also had the same experience with my family over the holiday, I was greeted by an Obama sticker on the rear of my nieces vehicle along with a coexist bumpersticker upon entering her home. The damage is done, we only have each other, find like minds to keep your sanity. We need to adopt the same tactics as our enemies come the new year.

I’ve been struggling with these feelings since realizing Zero was reelected. I hope someone knows how to handle it cuz I could sure use the help.

I fee yer pain, friend. Your description of your family members mirrors my own.

It does hurt when your own relatives begin to treat you like some form of pestilence because of your politics, and when they refuse to inspect and analyze a single argument you're making to inform them of the reasons for your core beliefs.

In the end, I had to get real with the fact that these are grown people, and that the best I can do for them, is to lead them to the water. I cannot make them drink it. If they choose to ally themselves with an evil, which, unfettered and unopposed, will quite literally destroy all that has been achieved in this country, then I have to accept that fact, despite the emotional strings attached.

In the Civil War, my G-G-G grandfather fought for the Confederacy, while his brother served with the union. Fortunately, they never met in battle, and both survived the war, though had they done so, it's a near certainty that one would have shot the other.

Such is the state of the political divide in many families today - including my own. I don't like it, but I do accept the reality of it.

Don’t kid yourself, the only shootings you’re gonna see are nightly in Detroit and once a year at department stores on Black Friday.

Ruby Ridge and Waco went by and have been forgotten. Bread and circuses.

My view is this, they are the enemies of individual freedom and therefore my enemy, period, regardless of who they are and that includes blood. I`ll not be a slave of the state and if they want slavery then let them have it, in their own peoples dis-topia, there are plenty of areas for it, look at the county breakdown of the country`s political affiliation, as for me I`m moving to a red area of a red state, when the zombie apocalypse occurs, I`ll at least have a chance.

“Nazi Germany pushed people into a nationalistic frenzy wherein they were expected, if not required, to work hard for the state. Can you imagine many of the Obama voters ‘working hard’?”

No totalitarian state looks kindly upon malingerers. The stupid and the lazy will be press-ganged into some form of work, probably mindless and sweaty. I wonder if they will realize how better off they would have been working hard under freedom and capitalism instead of toiling just to earn their “freebies”?

Perhaps as late as two years ago, I might have still walked through that door. Today, I'm not so sure that I could do it. Thankfully, I live fifteen hundred miles from my extended family, so that's not something I have to deal with. If I were still living in the same region as them, I'm sure my name would already be permanently off the guest list.

The older I get, the more I understand why even those who didn’t support slavery still supported the Confederacy.

I feel pretty good. Look at what’s happening to Jesse Jackson, Junior. If ever there was a guy that was going to be saved by the Democrats, you have to believe it would be junior. He was elected, what, eight times? Son of one of the big hitters in the Democrat party. Re-elected while under investigation. Hiding in a mental hospital. A Chicago guy. Yet, the rascal is going to jail. Let me tell you, that has to send a chill through the Democrats. I’m feeling pretty good. Who’s next in the Democrat party?

i am severing relationships with a couple of obamanistas (acupuncturist and massage person) and tell them taxes are going up, income is going down, and my job potential for what i was making is ZERO. i will find alternatives. elections have consequences. the feral government is an enemy of the people.

“isn’t America about sharing?”

Private charity is much more efficient than the government. As I recall, something like 80% of government “programs” for the poor get spent BY the government (and that may be a lowball estimate).

Your brother may be book smart but, like all libtards, he “feels” rather than thinks and has no common sense.

I don’t associate with lefties except the ones I must (at work) and I refuse to discuss politics with them. Most of them are female and libtard females in a workplace have no compunction about filing false sexual harassment claims against any male they don’t like.

Fortunately I live in a very red rural area of a very red state so there’s more of US than there are of THEM.

Obama would love to seize power like the president of Egypt. That is why he is trying load up the military with homosexuals. Until he controls a military that will follow unlawful and unconstitutional orders, he will never control the people.
