MIAMI (CBS4) Carnival Cruise Lines is apologizing to gay passengers booked for an upcoming cross-dressing voyage for telling them they could not dress in drag on the ship, according to CBS4 News partner The Miami Herald.
The Miami-based company came under fire in the gay and lesbian community when they told passengers who had booked to attend the Drag Stars at Sea that they must refrain from engaging in inappropriate conduct in public areas or be kicked off the ship Glory.
Carnival claimed the themed trip did not adhere to their family friendly atmosphere.
The trip was coordinated by AlandChuck Travel, a gay-oriented company based in Sarasota. The company had booked about 1,000 passengers for the cruise.
But after a social media firestorm, the company is now backing off that statement, saying passengers can dress however they choose.
Anyone who wishes to dress in drag may do so, Carnival President and CEO Gerry Cahill wrote in a letter to passengers obtained by the paper.

Keelhaul!
Chum the water for the sharks first.
A Hole lot of Glory, I’m sure!
The jokes just write themselves with this one...
Why? (i mean why did they apologize)
I’m going to guess they conflated fetishwear for cross-dressing.
Homos and their apologists flock to cruise ships like they do to Disney World.
Well, maybe they look better when they get all dressed up.
Yes, and last week they keelholed a seaman.
WTF is this? Two guys or two fugly gals?
Is that the bass player for Aerosmith?
You be the judge.
What it is, is disturbing!
Since a boat is basically a HOLE in the water you throw your money into, that would make the ship's name Glory Hole
I was on The Glory a few weeks ago for “The Cruise to Nowhere” out of Norfolk, VA. Fantastic 952-foot floating resort with 13 levels (11 for almost 3,000 passengers). Didn’t see any gays.
We need to adopt better tactics to deal with issues like this. I for one, will make sure and ask the cruise operator if it is a Homo Cruise before I book my next one. If everyone does this the cruies operators will get the message. We do outnumber them after all.
Gay men have better fashion sense than that.
