Dog stays by missing boy’s side
Yahoo News ^ | 12/1/12 | Claudine Zap

The spirit of Lassie is alive and well in a dog named Ashapoo. The trusty canine was always at the side of his owner's two-year-old grandson, Peyton. And that was a good thing when Peyton's grandfather turned his back for a minute as he was planning to take the boy on a trip on the family land in Clover, South Carolina, to find a Christmas tree. When he turned around, the energetic kid was gone. But so was Ashapoo. By the time Peyton's parents showed up to join the hunt for their missing son on the 300 acres of woods, they took solace knowing the boy was with his faithful friend.

The parents said that the dog was their hero. They plan to get him a well earned steak, and they are also looking into a GPS tracker for Peyton.

I would say both are excellent ideas given the day’s events.

Smart Border Collie. I have Shelties now . . . but would like to own a Border Collie one of these days, Australian Shep’s are good too.

“but I’m afraid that the German Shepherds we have now might bully it.”

The more likely scenario is that the Border Collie would ‘herd’ the German Shepherds. :-)

I had an acquaintance who recently died of a massive heart attack in her home.

She laid there for three days with her dog at her side. There were bite marks on her face. The dog was not trying to eat because her flesh was not torn. The dog was trying to wake his owner. When the lady’s family got into her house the dog was laying next to her, not wanting to leave her side.

Looks just like our Border Collie, but ours has a tail with a white poof at the end. They are an amazing breed. He’s finally left adolescence now that he is 13 1/2.

I love doggies.

We have a rat terrier, a busy breed, and somewhat aggressive, but faithful as faithful comes. He’s actually my daughter’s dog, and, though he’s affectionate with the whole family, he’s really a one-owner dog.

For you border collie fanciers out there - did you know that the word ‘collie’ is thought to come from ‘coal’ - as in, they are black as coal. ‘Here, coal-ie.’ (Thanks to Webster’s 1828 dictionary).

There’s nothing in the world like a good, faithful dog. Your daughter’s a lucky girl!

My little Maltese, when he isn’t sleeping on my lap, never leaves my side and closely watches my every move as though I’m the most fascinating creation in all the universe. He’s so in tune with me that he responds to the cue of me raising an eyebrow. He’s so eager to please me that I’ve never had to tell him “no” more than once.

They’re a calm breed, very laid back, affectionate, and known for forming deep attachments to their humans.

Yahoo has become totally unbearable. You’ve got to click pages and pages to check your mail and their supposed news is full of trashy non-stories.

"...trashy non-stories.

All of them about praising and worshiping their "messiah" Barry Benghanzi and his 'RAT disciples.

How far and fast can a two year old go in sixty seconds? Thank goodness the dog was more attentive than the grandfather!

I have had both shelties and Aussies in the past. Both breeds are smart, love to ‘herd’ and and very loyal to their famlies. I miss having a dog around...alas Mr C4E is allergic to dogs.

Border collie!

Darn right! Smartest dogs in the world. If you can just put up with them until they settle down a bit. Mine took four plus years until you could live with her. She's 12 now, pretty laid back (for a BC, that is!), still loves to play more than anything (including eat), will find her own toys if there are none around (amazing what can be done with a stick!), is a stranger to no one, and the best companion.
