Doomsday Preppers are Socially Selfish (emergency mgmt. college)
www.emergencymgmt.com ^ | 11-29-12 | Valerie Lucus-McEwen

Posted on 12/02/2012 7:17:14 PM PST by dynachrome

You might wonder why someone like me, who has been in the business of encouraging disaster preparedness for a very long time, is so critical of people who are doing just that. It’s because they are being socially selfish – preparing themselves and the hell with everyone else. Instead of spending time and energy making changes that would benefit the larger community, in their very narrow focus of loyalty they are more concerned about themselves.

Emergency Managers can’t afford that kind of attitude. It is diametrically opposed to everything we do. Our job is to prepare individuals and communities and jurisdictions and regions and – ultimately – the globe for disasters, knowing we won’t always succeed. I could find statistics about how unprepared some citizens are, and then show you hundreds of active and volunteer CERT teams preparing whole communities. In major disasters (think 9-11 or the Christ Church earthquake or Superstorm Sandy), survivors for the most part WANT to help each other.

Who perzactly is 'they'?

There aren't enough cops, national guardsmen, and active duty to do much more than patrol a few large cities if things get truly sporty. Are you talking Philly cops? Chicago cops? Deployed troops overseas?

I posit that this gigantic nation can only be ruled with the consent of the people. Because if beltway fools want to play hide-and-seek, I'm good for a while in the scrub of west Texas/eastern New Mexico while they get worn down and roll craps.

I could use some of that fancy gear, now that I think of it... war spoils.

Many people have enough clueless people in their own families that they can’t have any hope to prepare for, on top of themselves.

seriously in a shtf scenario if you don’t know the person at the door, or don’t know someone you do know, is coming over, the door isn’t opening.

This author was coming from the view of -apparently- a government emergency management background.

That is kind of chilling.

Thus the backlash against her. I can’t help but believe that many or most of the government officials think we should be forced to depend on them when the crapstorm comes.

I don't find it chilling. I find it hilarious. Where do they think the goodies they pass out come from?

If word gets out that we could do it better without the federal cuffs, they would be out of their phony baloney jobs.

I smell fear.

Valerie Lucus-McEwen disgusts me. Guaranteed, she voted for the African communist Ubama. Every other sentence she writes includes the word "community" ("commune-ity" - - Valerie must be one of those "village" people). She obviously abhors people who are self-reliant. (Anyway, somebody with a hyphenated name wants to call other people "selfish"? That's some gall right there.)

Valerie, in her semi-apology, attempted to distinguish "doomsday" preppers from "disaster" preppers, but doesn't seem to grasp that most "doomsday" preppers are preparing for economic catastrophe, not an earthquake. As for me, I will continue stashing firearms and precious metals, and stocking the kinds of items my family may need for survival and bartering in the event of economic apocalypse. Good for me if the same items come in handy in the event of a "disaster".

She’s got the whole world

Ole disaster Val is responsible for taking care of disasters all over the globe! She’s a very special citizen of the world, you see.

Given she has this outsized ego, I’m guessing she is too incompetent to take care of anyone without theft. People best prepare to take care of themselves while “smart” people like ole Val take care of the whole globe.

Comrade! If you have a 5 KW generator, and live in a town of 10,000, you are each entitled to 1/2 watt of power apiece; to not share equally is selfish!

It is also selfish to expect the other 9,999 to contribute 1/10000 of the initial cost, fuel, maintenance, and upkeep for the generator.

To prevent selfish attitudes from destroying our community, I am confiscating the generator & fuel; and will use them for the good of all by keeping the Commissariat lighted and heated.

If I prep for myself, then that helps the community, because they have one less person to worry about.

If every single person prepped for theirself and their family, there would be no people or families that the community would have to take care of.

Nothing selfish about making sure that someone else doesn’t have to provide what you neglected to do for yourself.

The hyphenated last name is the key clue in this academic exercise. Her government job is the second clue.

It is the new liberal mantra. “Doomsday”, “Zombies” et al are just old white man code words for black people gone riotous.
