Chinese survival pods to defend against 'apocalypse'

As believers across the globe prepare for the forecast Mayan apocalypse, a Chinese villager says he’s going to save humanity with his giant tsunami proof survival pods. The pods are made using a fiberglass casing over a steel frame, cost $48,000 each to make and are equipped with oxygen tanks, food and water supplies. They also come with seat belts – essential for surviving in storms. “The pod won’t have any problems even if there are 1,000 meter high waves, its like a ping pong ball, its skin may be thin but it can withstand a lot of pressure,” the balls’ creator Liu Qiyuan, told AFP from his workshop outside Beijing. “The pods are designed to carry 14 people at a time, but it’s possible for 30 people to survive inside for at least two months,” insisted Liu Indeed, their insulation is such that “a person could live for four months in the pod at the north or south pole without freezing,” Liu continued.

Still some light years away but closing rapidly is an alien vessel.

Not your average ship, this one has capability to shatter a planet.

But this particular ship is piloted by a bunch of kids going on a joy ride and they are just cruising around looking for something to shoot up.

They say green planets explode the best.

Just something to consider in the realms of fantasy and fiction.

A smaller two-seat version would be a good idea for people living in tsunami vulnerable areas.

30 people cooped up in a giant ping pong ball for 30 days are gonna get pretty darn smelly.........

Hey, that would be a great new episode for "Survivor".......

These still make more sense than ‘investing’ in a Chevy Volt.

Take an egg & shake it violently for several hours, then take a look at what is inside: scrambled egg.

I'm guessing the same will happen to anyone strapped inside this fool thing. Strapped along the inside wall will let you experience the full force of hours of tumbling. Your arms, legs, & head will flail around such that the bones break. You'll probably die from the G-forces or just constant tumbling. This egg might be comfortable floating in a lake, but what about surfing a tsunami at 200+ MPH. Oh, and the first tree, pole, log or debris you encounter will go right thru this thing.

Go find the most violent ride at the state fair or amusement park, ride it non-stop for several hours, & if you are still alive, let me know how you feel.

Seller = scammer, buyer = moron

I wonder where the two months supply of food for thirty people goes????

An error in translation... Actually, the other 29 people are the two month's supply of food for the 30th person...

Passengers 32 and 33.

The funny thing about this is that if the world suffers a real pole shift where the crust of the earth moves, there will be waves. Except those waves with be earthen, and about 1,000 ft high. There is a reason why the theory couldn’t be proven: nothing would remain. Period.

These people are idiots.

My understanding is that pole shifts have occurred in the past. Is there geological evidence for these land waves? I have not read of those before.

"Actually, the other 29 people are the two month's supply of food for the 30th person..."

And after those two flash light's batteries go out, "the 29" never know what hit them!

I'd rather have an escape pod that you can steer across oceans.

On the show “1001 ways to die” they had an episode with a couple of friends who got into one of those giant clear plastic inflatable balls, and rolled down a mountain for fun.

They were all killed most horribly, from trauma, smashing against one another bouncing and rolling down the hill.

Do they still have children's science TV shows that teach practical knowledge, or do kids now get this info from the Jackass show?

I'm neither an engineer nor physicist, but just looking at the thing tells me it is an ugly way to die. I don't know how I know it, but I know it.

IIRC, there was an astronaut that nearly died in an tumbling space capsule.

Now, here is a puzzler: The builder mentioned the similarity to a bouncing ping-pong ball. Ping-pong is probably a national sport in China. Have the potential Chinese buyers ever considered the effects of being inside a bouncing ping-pong ball?

I think most kids consider even TV to be outdated. Most kids under 20 spend all of their time on the internet, and think television is something from the last century.
