Watch This Fearless Pup Drive Through San Francisco (Video)

In the same way we enjoyed the smoking scrub jay in Bernal Heights not too long ago, here's another amusing image of an animal acting like a destructive human.

In this video, posted by YouTube user thedrivingdogs, you will see Porter the pup speeding across the Bay Bridge and through the streets of San Francisco. He's not just trying to teach Californians how to drive; rather the homeless dog wanted to show you how damn smart he is, giving you a good reason to head to your local SPCA and adopt homeless pups like him.

Kind of fake. The footage of the dog in the car is from a video that came out a couple weeks ago of a program in Australia. The dogs do not drive the car alone, they need a human to tell them where to go. They just mixed some of that interior vehicle footage with exterior footage of a car driven by a human.

The video is a joke, that is obvious. It’s also a good joke.

However, in the original video, the dog does learn to steer the car, hit the gas pedal, and the brake independently of any human help. The human might be standing in front of the car leading it, but the dog still did all that with receiving commands from the human.

Yes, they could “drive” the car, but they can’t take it for a spin on the streets, they’d just crash into something, because they don’t pay any attention to where the car is going. I don’t know if they even conceptually put it together that they are in control of where the car goes. A primate is smart enough to understand that, but a dog, maybe not.

The raw intelligence to drive is there, The fact that the dog can operate a vehicle is proof of that. He may not be intelligent enough to go beyond that, but it is there.

The point of the original video is to show that shelter dogs are quite trainable, if they are given that training and care. The number one reason why people claim to be returning dogs to shelter was that the dog is not trainable and doesn’t get along with the owner.

That’s not the dog’s fault. :)

How many human males have had accidents, once they’ve seen some attractive and scantily clad young thing?

Most dogs aren’t that hard to train either, but a lot of people just don’t know the techniques to use, and don’t bother to train them with any consistency.

No, dogs are not hard to train at all, for basic stuff anyway.

But dogs act so compatible, with people, that people think they can just talk to it and the dog should understand what the person is saying. They don’t realize that they have to communicate, from a dog’s mindset, if they want cooperation.
