Coca-Cola 'the real deal' for gastrointestinal clogs
The Jerusalem Post ^ | 01/07/2013 | Judy Siegel--Itzkovich

When cars had metallic bumpers, sodas were used to polish them, and popular acidic soft drinks has also been known to be a good toilet-bowl cleaner.

Now, Greek gastroentrologists headed by Dr. Spiros Ladas at Athens University Medical School and Laikon Hospital have published a study proving that drinking Coca-Cola (the brand name provided in the article) can open up clogs in people with overly convoluted gastrointestinal systems caused by the ingestion of digested fruits and vegetables. They published their findings on Monday in the journal Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

I remember using coca-cola to clean aluminum. In elementary school, I did an in-class experiment by placing one of my freshly removed baby teeth in a glass of coca-cola. after 2-3 days, the tooth had dissolved.

It also works for removing decals and such, intact, from car windshields.

By family were lumberjacks in the north east. My grandfather used to use Coke (the soda wise guy ;) on the split rims of his log trucks to bust the rust for a tire change.

You could beat those things with a sledge hammer for 10 min and not budge them. Rust had them locked together solid. But pour a bottle of coke around the lockring, wait 5 min and they would pop first hit.

Coke...the universal solvent.

I drink Pepsi.

An interesting sidebar: Coca-Cola is the number one company in Greece’s stock market.

“Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling SA (ATHEX: EEEK), the world’s No. 2 Coca-Cola bottler and Greece’s biggest company by market value, plans to leave the epicenter of Europe’s debt crisis in favor of a London stock listing and Swiss domicile.”

our Father taught us to avoid soft drinks but
this sounds promising...

we plan to try it out. no real harm in trying it....and if it works it has to be a lot better than some of the harsh chemical laxatives!?

thanks for posting this

My mother would give it to me as a child when I had a stomach ache.

Worked like a champ. I had food poisoning last week and first thing I told the wife was to go out and get me a bottle of coke.

It also works great on a ham. Pour it all over the ham, inject some into th ham and while baking, baste the ham with the coke.

How much are these clowns consuming? Just add some rum and a little lime and everything will be OK!

Then I can rest assured I’ll never have an intestinal clog. I drink the stuff all the time ... not that diet crap, either.

I’m of the opinion that Pepsi is to soft-drinks what soccer is to sports ... a commie plot pretending to be an American favorite.

Now that the Greeks have trashed their economy, this will have to pass for medicine

This is news? I remember when the local Pharmacy had coke syrup on hand to sell to people who had nausea from being sick. You took a spoonful of the syrup and put it over ice and slowly sipped it and the nausea would go away.

Overeating is another problem. After dinner you would drink a Coca Cola and it would kill some of the indigestion.

One man I worked with years ago had a problem with keeping food down. The doctor put him on a straight diet of Coca Cola for two weeks.

After a week he was sick of cola so cooked up some bacon and eggs. Less than 30 minutes later he was heaving and puking. He went back on Coca Cola till the doctor took him off.

We used to do that 20 years ago and I still sometimes use it for that. We used to joke that if it did that to the battery gunk, what was it doing to our insides? haha

I learned as a teenager to use it to clean the winshield of a car. It takes that layer of scum off that build up over time and makes the windshield cloudy and hard to see through.

Second use per the article. McDonald’s double cheesburger, fries and a Coke. Best HANGOVER CURE you can buy for $5.

Now that I think about it (God am I bored or what?) Our Auto shop teacher in High school used to use coke when unsiezing engines. Pull the spark plugs, fill the cylinders with coke and wait a couple days.

Engine would turn over every time.

Made a hell of a mess though...8 volcanic coke eruptions underhood ;)

“My mother would give it to me as a child when I had a stomach ache.”

In the late Forties, early Fifties, my Mom used it too. Also kept a little bottle of straight coke syrup in the medicine cabinet. She got it at the pharmacy. Verner’s worked too, and it had the benefit of Ginger, which works very well.

That was the standard around our house.

Yes. well, my Dad said it wasn’t good for us..
but he meant drinking it all the time everyday

maybe once in a great while as a laxative treatment it may prove beneficial? especially if it works so we avoid taking the blasting powder the doctor prescribes
