We know you're out there, cat lovers, but how much do you REALLY love your cat? Have you ever actually tasted your feline? Meet Lisa, who loves her kitty so much that she eats the fur.
The 43-year-old Michigan woman, featured in the upcoming season of TLC's "My Strange Addiction," snacks on a smidge of cat hair every two hours and has downed more than 3,200 hairballs over the past 15 years.
She doesn't cough them up cat-style, either: She swallows them.
The fur gourmand explains that she eats fur off the floor and furniture, but that "the best ones are right off the cat."

I guess I don’t truly love our 39 cats. I’ve never even once considered eating their hair. I must be a bad “mommy”. LOL!
Research that has been done on the causes of pica suggests that the disorder is a specific appetite caused by mineral deficiency in many cases, such as iron deficiency, which sometimes is a result of celiac disease or hookworm infection. Often the substance eaten by someone with pica contains the mineral in which that individual is deficient.
More recently, cases of pica have been tied to the obsessivecompulsive spectrum, and there is a move to consider OCD in the etiology of pica. However, pica is currently recognized as a mental disorder by the widely used Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV). Sensory, physiological, cultural and psychosocial perspectives have also been used by some to explain the causation of pica.
It has been proposed that mental-health conditions, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and schizophrenia, can sometimes cause pica.
I might have a mineral deficiency, one that is mainly found in pastries and pies. ;-)
Will she also cough up a hairball?
This article just about made me hurl.
Does that count?
We live in an age where people think they have an answer for anything.
Lisa's moggie looks as if she needs serious therapy now.
Forty is the only number which has its letters in alphabetical order.
The number 40 is used in Jewish and Christian traditions to represent a large, approximate number: "umpteen".
In baseball, each team in Major League Baseball is allowed to have 40 players under major-league contracts at any given time.
if, for some crazy reason, I HAD to.
*Much* cleaner animals.
Celebrate Diversity (because you can’t call anyone crazy anymore)
Do you think Lisa votes democrat?
We'll have forty again before much longer, I'm sure. We're overdue for another stray to be dumped at the farm, which is why we have so many. It'll be spayed/neutered ASAP, as all the others have been. We have to maintain at least a little control of our population. LOL!
I should invite her over for dinner. Afterwards I can give her my vaccuum sweeper and she can pick up dessert........
Guess we know her party affiliation
I love my 6 cats, but never once have I ever considered eating their hair. Although I have had my face tickled by it!
I guess I dont truly love our 39 cats. Ive never even once considered eating their hair. I must be a bad mommy. LOL!
Can you imagine all the dirt, grease, germs, fecal matter, etc. that coats these hairs. Cats groom themselves with their tongue, so every hair has been in that cat's filthy mouth.
Was this report done from the woman's hospital room, at her funeral, or in an insane asylum?
Maybe her upcoming bezoar-removal surgery will break her of the habit.
And she’s going to be on a TV show? Why must we celebrate insane perverts and their proclivities?
I forgive you for the ping because you were my first Free Republic friend and helped me so much when I first signed on!
The YouTube link arrived in an email this morning. My stomach has not settled just yet... ;-)
39 cats!? no comment heh.
I knew right away this was Darks fault!
So I guess you have enough imports that you don’t need any domestic production of kittehs? :)
All three of my cats occasionally sleep in or on my bed. I’ve found enough granules of kitty litter in there to keep me from even entertaining the thought of eating cat hair.
I’m going to throw up, Sharky, how could you???!!!! SICK.
She is fortunate that, in so far as we know, she hasn't suffered a stomach or intestinal obstruction from the fur balls she's ingested. Such a problem is more common in cats and other animals, but does occur in humans as well.
ugh. This makes me want to throw up
I eat cat hair though not intentionally. Her Highness of the Universe and Beyond owns my desk, my comfy chair, my throw and my bed so it is impossible not to have a few fur balls myself. Sadly, it doesn’t taste like cotton candy.
As I said in my first post, Twas Darks fault......
I had a dentist appoitnment yesteray.
I know, shocking.
Little ole wraith me having ot see a dentist.
[Hey, possessing bodies is hard, they break you know!]
So what happens?
Get told “Hey, we’re going to stick this fluoride gel on those chompers.”
The stuff smelled like mint but tasted like what you’d expect rubber cement to taste like.
Felt like rubber cement too.
I have no need or urge to eat any cat hair.
Though if you are owned by cats you end up eating enough of their hair because they share with you.
So do dogs.
Reptiles don’t share, so they’re superior in that respect.
Stopped me right there, I know a certain AZ rattler that might have that problem..........
But AZ rattlers don’t have hair to share.
Strangles it, makes a sammich, then burps.
Maybe so but I still wouldn’t lick *them*, either....;D
[I would do anything for love...but I won’t do that]
I don't remember what it's like to have only 2, it's been so long since I had that few. LOL! But even with as many as we have, we spoil them.
Exactly! LOL! Babeh kittehs only happen when a preggers kitteh shows up on the doorstep. Or when a kitten is dumped. Our most recent newbie was about 4 months old when she showed up.
Thanks for your graphic.
I’m still laughing.
Jmo: She only drinks colas, eats junk foods, and cat hair. After years of consuming small amounts of cat feces in cat hair, she may have brain parasites, also, of which there is no cure.
My unofficial diagnosis: She needs iron, calcium, and zinc and in addition, she would benefit from a healthier diet, including food sources of manganese found in spinach, kale, chard, raspberries, pineapple, strawberries, romaine lettuce, collard greens, garlic, summer squash, grapes, turnip greens, eggplant, and brown rice.
