In 2009, Deputy Attorney General David Ogden, presumably speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated Barack Obama, issued the so-called Ogden memo, instructing federal prosecutors to not target medical-marijuana patients..... "Do you intend to carry this all the way through forfeiture?" Guilford asked U.S. Attorney Greg Parham. "Yes, absolutely, your honor," Parham responded. "The only evidence in this case is a $37 purchase of medical marijuana and an anonymous comment on a website that anybody could have written," Pappas says. "For this, they want to take a $1.5 million building."

This is a gross abuse. Violates 8th amendment (at least)
All things belong to the Emperor.
When was the last time a scum sucking slime bag Rat ever paid attention to the Constitution?
It is a very unwise policy to use the criminal law as a “revenue enhancer.” If a government follows such a policy they lose in the eyes of the governed that dispassionate, neutral status so necessary for effective peaceful governance. Those that as of today who are currently in power in the federal government, and in some states, are so stupid and greedy they do not relaize they are setting themselves up for a savage reaction.
This abuse has been going on for quite awhile. There’s a story about a family owned motel that was being seized because some illegal activity had taken place in one of the rented rooms.
I think Obama’s hubris is such, that I think someone got in his head to think that he is going to own all of this, and I mean OWN, like he bought it all. The government is going to be his personal stewart and he is looking at owning the world or transfering this to whomever he is prostituted to, be it a foreign leader, government, nation, or even a private party.
He is now moving with landlord like legislation to check if your “whore”-house is Obamacare fit enough with OSHA type compliance controls, Singapore style.

Agenda 21 needs someone of such stupid hubris as Obama thinking he owns it. The agenda itself follows such a pattern and has to rely into this kind of mad person. No other sane person would have the “idiot chutzpah” he has.
What is sad is that DC is so sold out to all the foreigners living in DC and applauding Bill Clinton at the UN during impeachment processes, that DC is at war against us in their prostitution to the intimidation this gang of foreign leaders is impressing on us.
Well said.
An excuse and a distraction. The left hates private property (see the communist manifesto) and uses any means they can think of to seize it
In the USA they don’t call it seizure - someone might remember hearing something like “right of the people .... to be secure .... search and seizure...”
But it’s illegal seizure of private property without just compensation.
Americans don’t want to hear it, but this country has already slid into socialism.
I always love selective enforcement of the law. Obviously, this building’s owner doesn’t have a huge law firm sitting at his beck and call, therefore an easy target to use forfeiture law to seize the property. I’m sure the feds will seize the convention center next...
Well the owners are a husband and wife; it was retirement investment money. They were being stupid for believing the FEDS saying it would be overlooked. And even though something is against the law I don’t think the property owners should lose everything they have because of something illegal someone else did on their property. The police and FEDS have done this to property owners that didn’t even know someone had done something illegal on their property.
anybody that risk their retirement like that, well... i guess i don't know what to say
even if they get to keep the property, they will lose more then the rent was worth in court costs
a hard lesson to learn, never EVER trust the government
On several occasions, honest cops have warned that the rules governing seizure of assets in many different kinds of cased, not just drug cases, leads to corruption as officers and departments eye money and property seized as their own. It’s not so surprising in this case.
not anymore i bet...
I read an article describing why Haiti was poor. It was not that the people were lazy, but that the government acted as a wealth confiscator, which prevented people from accumulating capital OR continuing to work after needs were met.
That is the Caswell Motel and they won in their final round in court, making a nice little precedent for future victims.
The courts are getting mighty skeptical of these takings as the DEA gets greedier and overreaches. They are fueling a backlash.
