"Americas muddle in Afghanistan is not merely an unwise policy, two prominent American authors one a serious analyst (and former badass warrior) the other a bestselling novelist (who created one of our biggest badass heroes) worry that it is an affront to American manhood as well."
*************
"West proposes we change from a counterinsurgency protocol (winning hearts and minds in order to recruit allies against the terrorists while building a civil society) to a counter-terror strategy (kill them whenever and wherever we can find them and let the Afghan government build its own society)."
Pathetic.
Great article. David Petraeus was the author of COIN. It hasn’t worked in Afghtanistan, and it will never work. The ROE’s that our soldiers/Marines are forced to abide by is beyond disgusting.
Vince Flynn’s latest novel sounds awesome.
Winning hearts and minds doesn’t work. Take a look at Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Not only does winning hearts and mind doesn’t work, it is expensive in terms of American lives and tax dollars.
Come to think of it, it doesn’t work in America either!
You're right, of course. Sort of like attempting to make a beautiful Mahogany table from cheap plywood. There is, after all, much to be said for genetics and parenting.

Where did you find cheap plywood?
Good question. I happen to be seventy-six years of age and I found that plywood many years ago.
Back in 1994 We purchased the 60'x120' Commercial Building we now live in. We have been remodeling over the years.
in 1995 We bought our first load of 3/4 inch T&G plywood subfloor. it was 13.95 a sheet.
I just priced some stuff that is supposedly comparable (though its a bit thinner) and its 31.97 a sheet now.
I don't believe there is such a thing as "cheap" plywood anymore.... (grins)
Army Special Forces (Green Berets) are the world experts in this sort of thing and we have a number of freepers who are, or were SF, it would be nice if they would post on these ‘kill them all, for God will know his own’ threads, but they rarely, if ever do.
Not to worry. With the forthcoming infusion of infantrywomyn, AFFRONTS TO MANHOOD WONT MATTER SO MUCH.
There are regions that the Afghan government concedes it is unable to govern (and the tribal terrorists reign there).
If you can't do the job, you hold no claim to the land and it can be conquered by any nation, not just "domestic separatist theocratic Islamists".
Why is "imperialism" such a rotten word when we are told by John FTA Kerry that we MUST accept a nuisance level of terrorism in the world today?
WTF where imperialism is a bad word but terrorism ISN'T?
Truth be told, the plywood isn't more expensive, it's the dollar sinking that's the problem. At the rate Barry Boy is running up our debt it won't be long before it's circling the poop chute. Cry for me Argentina! and Zimbabwe, Greece, Spain, Italy...

GtG
