Excerpt above is the money quote from the article. EPA frets that by increasing east coast port shipping, the environment would somehow be harmed. Bizarre.

Wouldn’t we save tons and tons of CO2 if all the EPA peeps offed themselves?

EPA fears that their power will be usurped by shippers avoiding the incredible tangle that the EPA has imposed upon the west coast ports, and instead move it to a jurisdiction where locals still fight, rather than just rolling over at the slightest decision.

That’s the heart of it.

It seems to me this project is going to be bringing in a lot of new high paying jobs to the port.

So what?

If you are on welfare and plan to stay that way all this project is going to do for you is cause traffic congestion and add dirt.

Hey! Those trucks might splash mud on some welfare queen’s $200 dollar purse.

This wouldn't be a problem if Panama were under Chinese control, the director of EPA would be down licking their asses clean.

Large mega ocean terminals are being built on the west and east coasts of Mexico to accomodate these large ships (which most US ports currently can not).

Because of Nafta, there will be increased rail traffic (and some truck ) OUT of Mex.

So much for more jobs in our ports.

The question is, who would profit if these port projects are killed. Find them, and you will know who is paying off the administration

Now, let’s see if I have this right:

The idiots want to turn business away because of pollution?

How about less ships delivering more cargo? Doesn’t that reduce the pollution?

IDIOTS!

The Texas and Louisiana ports are getting ready to ramp up for the new ships. They’ll be happy to take those jobs if the East Coast guys aren’t happy.
