Big difference between the care and respect on Saturday, vs. Sunday.

Where is the compasion and why is that not a conservative trait? I’m a capitalist and I understand the tremendous investment in this event and the pump it gives the sport – I’m all for that. What I’m saying is that I believe the sanctioning body missed an opportunity in decency to both hold the race and be sensitive to the personal loss/pain/injury that a number of their fans suffered at their venue just the day before. There was a better way, but in my opinion business drivers blinded them to it. Conservatism isn’t a blood sport.

Yer a puss. The “victims” who were able, went to the 500 on Sunday. You don’t hold a race for “sensitivities”. A butt load of non-”victims” paid a butt load of “capital” to watch their driver get some points at the “NASCAR Superbowl”, and have to be back to work Monday morning...they don’t take lightly to pissin’ away a $100 ticket.

Today, I purchased 3 nights lodging in Gadsden, AL for the Nationwide, and Sprint Cup races in Talladega. I support the sport.

The population in this area, at least 150 miles, squared could not fill the stands.

Mayhap, you ain’t a puss; mayhap you is a plaintiff’s attorney?

phuttt!

cheers, anyway:-)

I wasn’t aware NASCAR used wheel tethers, and in any case they wouldn’t do much good when the whole front end of the car is grated against the catch fencing. I know this incident and a few others like it (for sure I can recall a wheel killing a spectator at the ‘94 CART race at Phoenix) led CART, IRL and F1 to mandate tethers on their cars.

Why don’t you go and see if Mikey Bloomburg is looking for another funsucker assistant.

I’m as conservative as they come

No you are NOT.Someone lied to you. They probably wanted to avoid to tears and histrionics they would be subjected to if they told you what they really thought.

Thanks. Dozens of people who take what are perceived to be low level risks (sitting behind 20ft fences with massive steel cables & turnbuckles reinforcing them) wind up getting injured in a fluke accident - f*** em. Don’t let ‘em ruin our good time, don’t freakin’ acknowledge them or show any compassion. I’m a fricken tree hugging communist puss. I get it. If this is the new conservative train, then I must be something else.

"...you may want to tone down the party atmosphere just a bit"

So, how do you get the winner of one of the biggest races of the year to just say "Thank you very much" and walk away?

I found the 500 to be boring.

Spot on. That was the worst Daytona 500 in years. I had to record the first half. I'm glad I did. I fast forwarded a lot of the single line follow the leader.

I admit, I was watching for 1. New cars - curious 2. Danica on pole - what would be her fait? 3. 3 wide pack racing and aggressive bump drafting 4. A spectacular last lap finish.

The finish didn't dissappoint. But the broadcast missed the final moves that actually pushed Earnhardt and Martin to a 2nd and 3rd place finish. I was pretty pissed they cut away to the accident and never replayed the leaders final move, just the finish.

Are they racing on dirt this year? That would be worth tuning in for.

Hey, at least they waited a day to celebrate. In the NFL, NBA,NBL, NHL, and even college sports, many times fans get hurt, and even shot and killed, like in Oakland. Players get hurt, some go to the hospital. Some cannot play for another year, while others will never play the game again.

Yet in less than 3 hours, maybe a bit longer if extra innings or quarters are needed to settle a tie, the winners are celebrating a great win.

You must put everything in perspective, we live in a society of over 300 million people. You come off like a liberal that thinks the world needs to stop because someones dog got run over by a car.

In reality we do stop, we mourn, but then we continue on with life. Sometimes within a week like after 9/11, sometimes the next day as they did in Daytona. Sometimes we take a week, like we did after 911. Then there are those times when we continue when the whistle blows to start the next play.

Doesn’t mean we are not still thinking and praying for those who have fallen to the side, it just means that we know life must continue.

That’s what made America great, what you suggest we do is exactly what is destroying this country.

There will be a big payday for everyone injured despite the limited lawsuit possibilities. NASCAR and the owners of the race tracks have one of the most ironclad liability disclaimers there are but they also recognize how damaging a lawsuit can be to PR and will be fairly quick to settle. They’ll go to court but only long enough to settle on a reasonable sum.

It seems to me that all the cars are pretty equal in performance maybe they have been reduced in performance in the name of safety. Follow the leader along the wall is not interesting TV even with the odd fender bender back in the pack.

You are right. Personally I think the Daytona 500 was doomed the moment NASCAR decided to cater to the very sect of society that has proved time and time again they will do everything in their power to destroy everything they have gotten involved in.
