ZOT! Signs that the NRA is losing
Chi Trib ^ | 2-27 | Clarence Page

Now that they're facing Washington's first serious push for new gun violence prevention laws since the Columbine massacre, gun lobbyists are grasping at straws — as in "straw" purchases.

That's the slang for someone who legally buys a firearm from a licensed gun dealer, then sells it to someone whose criminal or mental health record prohibits them from making a legal purchase.

The National Rifle Association's official position favors prosecuting straw purchasers, but defends allowing sales at gun shows without background checks from private dealers.

In the 1990s, you may recall, Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's executive vice president, supported universal background checks for all gun purchasers. "No exceptions," he said.

Now the organization is against background checks, calling the current push in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre "a thinly veiled national gun registration scheme."

As if that were a bad thing. It is ridiculous in my view to require licenses for cars but not for guns. Yet, while all states require licenses for cars, the federal government prohibits itself, at the NRA's urging, from keeping a national registry of gun owners.

Short of that, most of the country, including many gun owners in recent surveys, favor background checks as a reasonable requirement for people who want to purchase firearms.

What most libtards do not seem to understand or even care to understand is that most illegal gun sales to criminals and whack-jobs alike do not take place at your local Gander Mountain or regional gun show.

They take place out of car trunks late at night in your inner city neighborhoods. Let them try to regulate those gun transfers.

I don't need a license for my car. I don't need a driver's license either. If I had a few acres of land I could drive around it all I wanted without either. I need them to drive my car on the government's roads. It's not linked to the car, it is linked to the use of the car on their roads.

How many of the cars in the Daytona 500 had license plates from their home states? The tow vehicles, trailers and other transports had plates, but the race cars don't drive on the road. (Hmm, I wonder if states hosting Gran Prix style races on city streets will try to squeeze a few extra bucks out by making the cars get plates.)

Bite me, Carl. God and the US Constitution say I have a natural right to keep and bear arms the same as any member of a standing army would have. I have no concern for the opinions of you or the Chicago Tribune. Keep poking the tiger, morons.

Clarence Page needs to gather some facts.

Here's a fact that might be interesting: How many homicides in Chicago were committed last year with legal guns? My guess is less than one percent - or maybe NONE.

I'd like to know.

Clarence Page can pick up his damn telephone and call the police department and ASK them. Collect a few facts... You know, act like a journalist... or how they use to act before they became girlie cheerleaders for democrats.

Because I live in a very gun unfriendly state neither kitty or I have guns. Kitty is very upset and meowing quite sadly because she wants to be in the band of brothers kitties

She does know martial arts if that will help . She also has a kitty sized Sherman tank which is very good for zotting.

Your humble servant to her cat
