Volcanoes Behind Earth's Cooling; China and India Exonerated

Volcanoes have more impact on earth’s climate than previously thought, scientists at the University of Colorado have found.

The researchers came across the finding as they looked for reasons our planet has not heated up as much as expected. The mainstream explanation was that the development in Asia (China and India, essentially) – where the industrial sulfur dioxide emissions increased 60 percent from 2000 to 2010, mainly driven by coal burning – was behind the cooling of Earth. According to the study by Ryan Neely which helped cement the mainstream view, small amounts of sulfur dioxide emissions from Earth's surface rise 12 to 20 miles into the stratospheric aerosol layer of the atmosphere, where chemical reactions create sulfuric acid and water particles that reflect sunlight back to space - which in turn cool the planet.

Neely said previous observations suggested increases in stratospheric aerosols since 2000 counterbalanced as much as 25 percent of the warming that scientists ascribe to human greenhouse gas emissions.

However, this new study by scientists at the University of Colorado points out that the new data on the issue, "essentially exonerate Asia, including India and China," from any blame for the latest cooling trend.

While both small and moderate volcanoes mask some of the human-caused warming of the planet, larger volcanoes can have a significantly larger effect, said Brian Toon of CU-Boulder's Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. For instance, when Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines erupted in 1991, it expelled millions of tons of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere --- and that ended up cooling the Earth slightly for the next several years.

I don’t think these scientists have a clue what is happening or which direction it is heading.

“Volcanoes have more impact on earth’s climate than previously thought, scientists at the University of Colorado have found.” I am astounded that this is even printed; a breathtaking display of ignorance of basic science I knew when I was in 7th grade. Even then, I knew that but for volcanoes, we wouldn’t even HAVE climate, as there would be no atmosphere. So would they effect climate more than man?

Duh....

Cooling?????

I thought that Big Al said that the Earth was into global warming? Well, since he made a couple of hundred million on the warming side, maybe he's looking to cash in on the cooling effort too?

Now I know why the US has been known as a 'melting pot'! No where on Earth can so many screwed up people coexist and prosper......

My guess would be yes.

Colder and cloudier due to increased volcanism, forest fires, etc., which may or may not be some result of the magnetic axis being so far off (near Russia a while back, haven’t check it, lately). I wonder how long it will go on.

“The researchers came across the finding as they looked for reasons our planet has not heated up as much as expected.”

So the lack of heating was completely unexpected???

Surely their all encompassing, brilliant climate models would have automatically factored such things in (sarcasm off).

The mainstream explanation was that the development in Asia (China and India, essentially) – where the industrial sulfur dioxide emissions increased 60 percent from 2000 to 2010, mainly driven by coal burning – was behind the cooling of Earth.

Wait, that can't be! The Lord High Obama and His Diminutive Sidekick, Blooming Moron have shown me that we need to get rid of coal electric generation cause it's going to cause Global Warming!

Yuup. That is how they conduct science in the post modern world.

Find a scientific theory that can be utilized to promote big government and more science.

When the observations do not match the theories predictions, search for another theory that explains why the first theory failed.

Keep the first theory intact, then proceed to test the new second theory with new observations.

That is how we got from Global Warming to Climate Change to Climate Extremes and eventually back to Global Cooling, when the lack of summers makes it even obvious to the retards.

Ditto DUH. And why are they always telling us that burning coal and other fossil fuels are causing global warming, and then contradicting themselves that fossil fuels are contributing to global cooling along with volcanoes???

I don’t think they have a clue. They just make stuff up to suit whatever scheme that they have to try and make it seem reasonable to the public.
