Actually, the NRA was founded by Civil War veterans in the North (among them, General Ambrose Burnside) who were dismayed that Union troops had fired something like 1000 rounds for every Confederate soldier shot. The NRA founders sought a charter from the state of New York to establish an organization that would promote rifle marksmanship.
Interestingly, New York also has a very long history of fighting against the NRA. The state chartered the organization in 1871 and financially supported the establishment of a shooting range in 1872, but by 1892, barely 20 years later, New York raised enough political opposition to the shooting range it had helped establish that the NRA moved its shooting competitions to New Jersey. Go figure.
But, yes, the organization was founded by people who fought against the South, not by a bunch of Southerners who wanted to keep power over the blacks, no matter what revisionist armchair historians like Michael Moore might say.

She ran against Maxine Waters, and was trounced, the GOPe of course did not support her.
I would love to see her try, her C.U.R.E group is doing so many good things, I am not sure she would give it up.
But certainly would be interesting.
