I'm reading Michener's novel 'POLAND'. The history of Poland is so depressing it's reading has been a real struggle. I didn't realize Hitler's goal was to exterminate the Poles as well as the Jews and they were treated just as badly. However Michener ends his novel in 1983. There is a lot that has happened in Poland since that date. What kind of government does Poland have now? I am hoping that the history of Poland finally ends on a happy note.
They are occupied by the European Union of Socialist States.
The main party is the Civic Platform (PO), which took over from Kaczynski’s Law and Justice Party (PiS).
The PO is a little more Centrist, not as socially Conservative as the PiS, but probably more fiscally conservative. PiS is more Euro-Skeptic.
The Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) is the main leftist party, but they’ve dropped in popularity, since Kwasniewski was their PM.
There was another movement called “Palikot’s Movement”, named after Janusz Polikot, which was a very socially liberal party, which wanted drug legalization and gay rights, which made a stir in the last election, but their popularity has dropped over the past year.
Still more socially conservative than probably any other country in Europe, but I think that is quickly changing.
I hope that Poland will tell the EU to F U, and quit. The EU, IMHO, is another Commie organization.
Obviously it is more socially conservative because it is very Catholic.
Read Michener with caution. He is not always historically accurate.
