A tortoise, who has been named after Adolf Hitler in honour of surviving the Blitz, is back from the dead -71 years after he survived a Nazi bomb attack in the Second World War.
Carey and David Miller feared their dear pet was dead after he was found lifeless in their garden during a late snowfall while they were abroad, the Daily Express reported.
The couple's grandson took Adolf, who is thought to be at least 100 years old, indoors but for the following month the reptile showed no sign of life.
Carey, a children's author by profession, said that during last Sunday's sunshine, they put the turtle in the garden of their home in Muswell Hill, north London and found that the tortoise head gradually came out.
The Millers had been told Adolf was found in a crater caused by one of Hitler's bombs in 1942.
This tortoise survived London being shelled?
It’s a miracle!
They can live a long time.
Shame on you...
We have a large semi-aquatic turtle. (Nasty thing. Our daughter brought it home from a friends house when she was 5. She's now in her 20's).
It hibernates during the winter. I don't know what kind of turtle Adolf was, or if it would hibernate, but maybe that's what happened?
Just by a hare.
“Hitler finds out...” video in 3...2...
How do we actually know the turtle was anti-Nazi -- and not some testudinal Rudolf Hess parachuted in by the enemy?
Bombed. Although the Germans actually did shell the British coast wiith long range guns on the French coast, and the brits fired back with their own guns.
Dolf turtled-up, just restin’ ‘e was—pinin’ fer the fjords, mos’ likely.
Pullin’ a Yertle, yah? A daft old tortoise, reg’lar gaffer ‘e is. Blimey.
And they say we can’t speak English. Heh.
>Its a miracle!
Let’s not snap to any conclusion.
Cold turtles and tortoises hibernate, they are reptiles.
There’s a lot of furor over this hibernating turtle.
The tortoise wouldn’t turn turtle for the Nazis.
Took a verrry long nap, is all!
LOL! Slow and deady wins the race!
He was simply shell shocked.
(to all) If it’s possible to laugh and groan at the same time...
They interviewed him. He’s not too sure. It all happened so fast...
