Argentina is going through the classic stages of economic collapse.
The government seized all pensions. They are destroying everything that gives the people incentive to be a society that emerges from the cooperation of everyone.
When government turns against its own people, even as the USA is currently doing, you end up with deflation insofar as the economy collapses and wages are not available, while hoarding emerges as does barter.

Something else people living in cities better get through their thick skulls.
That inner city Micky D, KFC eating crowd isn’t content with a MRE, hungry or not. Seen that too many times after a hurricane. Throwing an MRE in the trash and wanting to know why Micky D wasn’t open.
Govt there handing out food isn’t enough.
If they know you have something besides MRE’s to eat they will take it.
It is plain that the farmers are planning on holding out for a higher price down the road, not forever, although you could take them to a cannery and have them canned to last 20 years if you wanted to hoard them for your own personal use.
If you buy heirloom open pollinated seeds, you don’t have to worry about some conglomerate’s rules. The companies who sell open pollinated seeds won’t bother you, and in fact sometimes will even give you info on how to save your seeds to use again.
It all depends on whether you want to do what it takes to be independent, or be beholden to the gonglomerate.

The inner city ones will stay in the inner city and kill each other off. Some will then try to get to rural areas since they think anyone living in a rural area has plenty of water and food. That is not correct. Most people living in rural areas get their food at the grocery store. If they have a well, they can’t get the water since the power is off.
The ones who try to leave the inner city will get to one tank of gas out of the city maximum, and be stuck there unless they walk and they are already weak.
In Texas, there will not be many who make it out of the city as they will be shot and killed dead, real dead.
Lucky us, we have group camps already setup for the displaced. One at the old Richards Gebaur airfield- airport in Belton, Mo and the other at Fort Leavenworth. Need food, water, shelter or clothing? Go to the camps. You will never go home. Courtesy of FEMA.

I did get heirloom seeds sealed for long term storage and it was suggested to freeze them for even better storage so they are in the freezer.
I’m looking at large containers with wheels that have wire to hold tomatoes up and other crops like pole beans. I could put a number of those on the raised outside deck. They also have that method of watering from the bottom up.
Those sound good for you and your situation. I didn’t buy any hybrids this year for the first time. At the rate our weather is stopping the progress of planting, It sometimes seems I’ll never have my crops planted.LOL

You don’t seem to understand. In places such a Costa Rica, food grows wild, nearly everywhere, right up to the ocean. There is no need to steal food in the countryside with such a small population & wealth of free food. Why risk stealing when you can gather your food for free?
I’m not saying you would eat like a king, but you wouldn’t starve. In the USA, many people will starve within a month of the grocery stores closing. Many more will not survive a winter.

I also think when the price of food becomes so costly this too will happen.

Thus it is critical to know your neighbors and be prepared to band up like the settlers did the last time we fought savages. Also, no one said you and your neighbors had to sit inside the house waiting to be individually picked off. The best defense is a good offense.

A lot of people that live in small rural towns may buy most of their food from the store but a lot of the same food they buy is produced right where they live.
People with gardens generally produce more than they can use anyway, I know I do, and you would get farmers markets in a little no time. People might have to get used to eating “poor mans food” greens, lots and lots of greens, but they will eat.
Same with ranchers. They need to get rid of their calves, not enough pasture to expand the herd that much, sell them to individuals.
As for water, people that have wells a quart of gasoline and a generator and you would have more than enough drinking water to last you for a couple of months.
People in the country will make out ok in the food and water. People in the city, that’s a different story.
The private sector economy will go further in the tank as the more affluent and productive working people flee the cities.
These people will have to learn to do something besides push a pencil if they want to eat.
I would expect some type of food kitchens to be set up in the inner cities, but I also expect the violence will have them shut down in short order.
Might want to check the start up power requirements for a 1 HP motor and make sure generator is big enough.
Then again, a long string and a piece of 3 in PVC with a check valve might work too.

No power means no gasoline, stuck, can’t get to town.

No gasoline, no generator, no water.

Stuck one tank of gas from city, no place to live, no food, no water, desperation to live, revert to survival instinct, eventually get killed.
