What if we do, and they turn out to be Muslim extremists, or are friendly to those that are? What if they manage to scuttle the Assad regime? How do we stop them from getting their hands on chemical weapons if/when they topple Assad?
Boots on the ground in Syria?
Does the U.S. want to do that?
Why do we need to resolve it?
Hell, no. Stay out. Or support Assad, who, at least, is a secular fascist dictator (a significant improvement over an Islamic Republic). But stay out of Syria.
The Muj that Charlie Wilson rode with was not the Taliban which was later taken over by al-Qaeda.
Yes, the current “opposition” in Syria and previously in Libya were run by an affiliate of al-Qaeda.
Any Congress critter or President found doing so is subject to immediate impeachment, and any citizen of whatever flavor is subject to years in prison.
As to Syria, the best way to handle it is RUN AWAY! The crazy Muslims have been killing each other for 1400 years. I never saw the value of wading into a dog fight to try and break it up.
As to Islam, the best way to handle it is when you are hit by it, Hit back 100 times harder. You will not be hit again for a few years as it is in the Koran the rules on how to handle the infidel. When they fight back the Koran commands them to stand down, but if they sue for peace the Koran commands them to step it up.
Do not support them, do not dialog with them. Be fair and kind, but if they step out of place hammer them into the ground like a tent peg. Islam will destroy itself if it runs out of cowards to prey upon. It is a cowards religion preying on cowards and has no military strategy. Rabble at best, kamikazes are why we invented nuclear weapons.
This is advice from someone who lived with Palestinians for 10 years under Jihad. I know of what I speak.
The US, should for once take care of the US.
We should support whatever side is losing to prolong the war. Or just sell arms to both sides. ;)
Got a soft spot for Biden do you?
Can we make it 537?
I said human shields. ;)
We armed Osama Bin Laden in the 80s against the Russians... so... sure. What could go wrong?
Although it’s hindsight and we were at the height of the cold war back then, I wonder if we would’ve been better off if we had helped the Russians instead of the mooslems in the 80s?
Too late, Israel could not wait for us to get around to figuring out what side is up and wasted the factory already.
Israel, doing the world Mitzva's since 47...
No! Let them kill one another. There is no reason to choose sides in their internal disputes. It does not matter who wins. They will still hate us and attempt to kill us at any opportunity.
Saudi Arabia and Qatar, two extraordinarily wealthy oil-producing states, are already arming the rebels. We, on the other hand, are so broke our government can’t even afford to conduct White House tours. So why are we even thinking about supporting anyone?
We must be delusional. Our government doesn’t even take in enough revenue to support the 48 million Americans on food stamps, who must be paid with billions of newly printed dollars adding to our already towering debt. Yet we want to increase that debt by printing even more billions to send to Islamic jihadists in Syria who would just as soon kill us as look at us, and who are already receiving untold billions from Islamic jihadist sponsors like Saudi Arabia?!
No. For two reasons. One, the Free Syrian Army is not exactly a Jeffersonian movement. Two, when your enemies are killing each other, it’s time to break out the champagne AND the popcorn.
Spot on!
I agree. If they’re busy killing each other they won’t be killing “Infidels”.
Arming islamists. That’s the obamaic spirit.
“Sounds like a good plan. Maybe we should arm both sides :)”

Send them the arms and ammo our friendly Dept of Homeland Suicide plans to use on us.
No. We have nothing to gain there; its a lose-lose situation. Let the friends of peaceful religion deal with it.
Yes, but only with shotguns. They must fire two blasts from their balcony to scare off any Assad supporters. If Hezbollah personnel are involved, they may shoot through the door.
