Grilled (chicken, pork, beef) hot dog. Steam the buns lightly. Chili (no beans) Vidalia onions, mustard relish. This is on the bottom of the bun. Add the dog. Melt some sharp cheddar on top then a little horseradish mustard. Eat and repeat(I’m talking about repeat with another. Thats why I left the beans out:>))

And dont forget the sides of only-in-New England buns
are first buttered and toasted before adding the dog.

Another New England fave is Olneyville's New York System hot dog----found only in Rhode Island. A four inch long dog, grilled whole, and topped with "special meat sauce," mustard, raw onions and celery salt. Order 4-5 at a time.Washed down w/ "coffee milk"--found only in RI.

You are absolutely correct: ketchup has no right to call a hotdog home.
My standard toppings are yellow mustard and vidalia onion, finely chopped.
If I want to go whole hog, I add a pickle spear, chopped tomato (I know I am arguably getting close to ketchup here, but the taste is quite different), and chili w/o beans. That’s great!
When my kids insist on putting ketchup on my excellently grilled dogs, I cringe, but I figure they will grow out of that pernicious habit.

Street dog, Der Wienerschnitzel style. Bacon-wrapped deep fried hot dig in bun spread with mayo; top the dog with mustard, ketchup, and grilled diced onions. Serve with a side order of statins.

Chopped onions, yellow mustard, sweet relish and horseradish on a New England style Hot dog roll. (toasted)

Hubby says, it’s the only good thing to come out of New England in at least a Century.

Oh, yeah. Lobster rolls are likewise something best left to native New Englanders, who know how to do them right: fresh, coarsely chopped lobster meat - removed from the shell, not pre-packed, fer Gawdsake. A bit of mayonnaise (and I mean, a little damn bit) to bind the meat. Top with melted, unsalted butter on a toasted NE hot dog roll. Maybe a dash of mustard seed and a small squeeze of lemon, but that's it. No embellishment needed. Hold the celery, hold the lettuce, chives, scallions, basil or whatever - that's not how we do it here.

Now, pour a cold Sam Adams IPA and enjoy. And go, Bruins!

Interesting. My guess is you spear the hot dog slices with dry spagetti, then boil. Couldn’t figure it out at first!

brown mustard and diced onions.

yellow mustard is almost as bad as ketshup

and, yes, Lum's made a great hot dog - I just told them to hold the kraut on mine
