I love Dame Helen Mirren, but NO!

Two Words.

Hugh Laurie.

The House is in The Doctor (evil grin)

Helen Mirren needs no TARDIS to go beyond Space and Time. . .

As SNL showed us. . . (Borderline NSFW)

While I find the show entertaining, the problem with British shows is the scarceness of episodes. In 4 years how many episodes has Matt Smith actually done (42 according to Wiki).

Sheesh. Just as I was finally getting used to Matt Smith after the trauma of losing David Tennant.

You cannot allow yourself to get attached to any of the Doctors. LOL!!!

Another poster mentioned Hugh Laurie, which would be vastly entertaining, but I am afraid he would end up acting too much like the House character. :-/

My guess is that they are going to pull in an older actor in order to pay homage to the fact that there hasn’t been a “grandfatherly” Doctor since the reboot.

I haven't watched Doctor Who for a long time.

Has there ever been a female Doctor before?

After Tom Baker in the 1970’s, every new Doctor has been something of a disappointment for me.

I think James Bond fans are going to feel the same way when Daniel Craig retires.

Some actors just “own” a role and viewers can never completely let go of it.

Who?? Was he a villain; or did he have a role assisting Sean Connery? /s

What speculation?

John Hurt appeared at the end of the series finale (season finale to us Yanks) and was more or less said to the the next Doctor.

Daniel Craig?! I've felt that way ever since Sean Connery retired... and that was several years before I was born.

That's how I remember it, too. Could it be that Freepers are better informed than some journo?

Oddly, it seems that they keep getting younger with each doctor.
Maybe they wil get Justin Bieber for the next role. /s

I posted in another thread a long time ago that the doctors were getting younger. And, since the current [Smith] is supposedly the last, the 'next' would be a baby, which would signal the rebirth of the Time Lords.

In related speculation, I would like to see Andrew Lee Potts as the new doctor. We basically watched Andrew grow up in Primeval.

"Has there ever been a female Doctor before?"

Only in the parody Doctor Who and the Curse of the Fatal Death

“And, since the current [Smith] is supposedly the last”

Wasn’t that before River Song kind of “recharged” him with her regeneration energy? Who knows if he is the last now?
