The TCM page for “Bataan” has a link to some movie posters but the posters are for 1945’s “Back to Bataan” – not this movie. This is the Robert Walker’s first credited screen role. Desi Arnaz is “convincing” as a soldier. Netflix has “Bataan” on DVD, but with a “very long wait.” It didn’t arrive in time for me to preview it but I recall watching it on TCM several years ago. My recollection is that Crowther has it about right. OK, but not great.

Just think, if you went to the Paramount theater you got a movie and Frank Sinatra live, too!

Looking at those theater ads I spotted “That Nazty Nuisance”

This is a funny spoof of Hitler made by Hal Roach...it’s on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dxv4V1p6euI

Some more films from the old ads...

Also see “Five Graves to Cairo (1943)” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9ZhvcyPRx0

Also “Keeper of the Flame (1943)” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXwR381pz7E
