It looks like Carey Mulligan won't have to prime up her American accent again after all. Last week we heard reports that said that the Oscar-nominated ingenue was the frontrunner for the title role in the upcoming Hillary Clinton biopic Rodham, but apparently things have fallen apart in the time since.
Despite the fact that the initial report said that both Mulligan and the production were eager to make a deal work out, The Hollywood Reporter has learned from a source that Mulligan has decided to pass on the film. Interestingly, there doesn't seem to be any strict reasoning behind why she wouldn't take the part. The trade says that the actress was officially offered the lead part after a meeting with director James Ponsoldt last week, but turned it down because she is "not prepared to commit to the role at this time." Is that a scheduling conflict? Does she have a problem with the script? It's hard to say.
Set long before her time as the nation's First Lady, a New York Senator or the Secretary of State, the film is set back during the 1970s and the infamous Watergate scandal. At the time Hillary Rodham was a lawyer who was serving on the House Judiciary Committee that made the decision whether or not to impeach President Richard Nixon.
While Mulligan won't be starring in Rodham, she does have a solid upcoming slate. This December she will be seen playing the female lead in the Coen brothers' hotly-anticipated Inside Llewyn Davis. She is also attached to star in the James Marsh-directed thriller Hold On To Me with Robert Pattinson; and Far From The Madding Crowd, the new drama from director Thomas Vinterberg.

Does not want to be type cast as an A & L
Frumpy British woman does not want to play Frumpy American politician . They will have to settle for Joy Behar
Good for you, Carey, regardless of the reason.
Don’t make the mistake Emma Thompson made, in what was most
likely going to be a puff piece designed to bolster the Hildebeast’s chances for nomination to the Presidency.
I’d like to suggest a particularly perverse piece of casting:
Lindsay Lohan.
I think Hillary should be played by Philip Seymore Hoffman.
I cannot think of a any actress is who is ugly enough to play the part of Hildebeast. Make up artists can only do so much. The cankles would be the hardest part to fake.
I'd make an exception and pay just to see him and the Toon actor dancing on the beach.
It ought to be quite obvious why she turned down the role.
She didn't want to be strapped into one of Rodham's pantsuits.
‘Frumpy British woman ‘
Nothing frumpy about Carey...
Hire Hillary’s body double Miss Piggy, and if she declines, I am sure Meghan McCain would jump at the chance!
Have they asked Ellen Degenares?
funny, I was just talking about her to a friend of mine.
Her name shows up in connection with someone I know in the graphic arts world, suggesting that he did something with her name in the title.NOT something he would do. Entirely a bogus connection, but it keeps showing up on the internet, with no “images” connected to it.
How could I have left her out of the casting call?
Great idea for Hollywood—a dysfunctional cinema epic with a cast ENTIRELY made up of fallen Disney and child stars. Eminence Grises like Charlie Sheen could play the dad of one of them/
The possibilities are endless! But some of the Hollywood product every year is already doing that on an incomplete basis even as we speak.
