With all the latest political controversy and looming legislation over gun ownership and Second Amendment rights, it is no wonder many Americans are making the important decision to invest in a gun. In fact, there have been 72,005,482 background checks for gun purchases since President Barack Obama took office in 2008, according to FBI data.
The Daily Caller decided to send this reporter to gun stores in the D.C.-Metro area to document purchasing a handgun from a females perspective, recording what recommendations I received and why, as well as how I was treated.
My proposal was simple: I am a young female looking for a handgun for home defense, with the ability to be used for concealed carry down the road, and willing to spend $500 to $600

Attaching a vertical foregrip[ to a pump shotgun makes the tool much easier to use and less likely to have a ‘short shuck’ problem. ... just sayin’
Why the heck would that be?
The judge is great on a farm, and I certainly wouldn’t want to be looking at the business end of it.
Why would the single that out?
It’s California.
Good call, I’ll bet that’s it.
Even if not birdshot, there is 00 self defenses shells that provide no ballistics
You need an 8-rd S&W revolver. Problem solved.
I have a S&W 642 (just five rds) with CT Grips, and changed out the trigger spring to a 2 lb pull.
With modern hollow points, good ones expand 50% such as my Hornady critical defense.
That means a 9mm (.355) is actually .5325, larger than .45 ACP.
Unless you use a .45 critical defense round. LOL! Who’s is bigger then? LOL! .45=.708
When I took my BFSC course many, many years ago, several people in the class couldn't pull back the slide on a .45, no matter how hard they tried. The instructor then had them hold the slide with their off (weak) hand and push the frame forward under it with their strong hand. All of them were able to operate the slide by doing it that way. (My guess - Pulling back on the slide with your weak hand doesn't apply as much force as you can apply by pushing the gun forward with your strong hand.)
Exactly the instructions I gave my CFO. Hold the slide firmly and push the frame forward. Never had an issue again. Seemed pretty logical/mechanical to me as the way to do it.
“The instructor then had them hold the slide with their off (weak) hand and push the frame forward under it with their strong hand.”
Now, why didn’t I think of that? I think that would work. Thanks for your post.
They probably classify it as a sawed-off shotgun.
I’m with you. I’ve got a Ruger P85 9mm but its really too big for my hands so it hangs in a holster in the closet as an emergency go to. I got a Keltec PMR 30 in .22 mag. Its got a 30 round magazine and louder than a you know what. If I blew off a round in the hallway it would scare the intruder to death. Its got an ambidextrious safety and fiber optic sights. Easy actioning and very lightweight. Zero recoil.
Glocks are great but they don’t have a safety or a decocker so for a beginner not such a good idea. I would say a Lady
Smith .38 or a Colt Python .357 would probably also be good choices. We keep a 9 round .22mag stubby revolver in the nightstand.
A girl’s gotta do what a girl gotta do.
You got that right. LOL!!!
Now, why didnt I think of that? I think that would work. Thanks for your post.
My gunsmith has tried that with me..I'm not sure if it's because it's not "instinctive", but it doesn't work for me. thus my love of my Walther.
Look into a S&W 351 PD, it is a 11 ounce 7 shot .22 Magnum. Hornady is making .22 Mag defense ammo that has a velocity of over 1000 feet per second out of a 2 inch barrel and will penetrate 9-11 inches in ballistic gelatin. It was I got for Mrs. Slim who does not like recoil.
