So in my 22 years of filing taxes, just got my audit letter from 2011, I owe $500. Not a lot, but considering I make less than $30,000 grand a year since the financial collapse... I find it odd that with standard children deductions I got audited.
Why would the IRS target someone who made less than $15,000 for that year? Seriously???
Make more now, but not that year. But they bother to audit me?
Do you drink tea at parties?
A few years back (2010), the IRS located that I had not included some interest from 2001. I owed the $9.83 for the deficiency. Now that was odd.
We all know why they audited you. Can it be proven? Even if proven how many years and how much money to carry it to the finish line?
This is how they have us. They have us all. They’ve made themselves (the entire government) so damn big and so opaque that calling them to account, they who should be accountable, nearly impossible and always daunting.
I never send my money to the Inland Revenue Service we live on the coast
Sounds like you gambled on getting away with cheating. Sorry about your luck but thanks for playing.
Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of a Christian organization?
Here is the deal. Every government agency, some even at the state level are on a mission to jack every dollar of income from the taxpayers they can get away with. Keep in mind, 50% of the nation pay no federal income tax and these parasites are demanding more blood. I have noticed a large increase in traffic stops in my immediate area. All of these measures are to generate income by taking money from the workers and achievers. It is only going to get worse.
I have a read that the IRS only audits about 1.5% of returns AND you are more likely to be audited at lower income than higher income people.
i got a nice one from them. 30 days to pony up 64k, or else..seems like there was a snafu in my late wife’s financials. the sweetest thing i ever read was the last communique: please pay balance due” “0.00”.
of course it took more than six months to get there, but
This is because Obama lowered the tax deduction amounts last year, but did not lower the amount OWED.
So, everyone thought they were getting more money back.
In reality, they still had to pay the same amount, they just didnt take out as much from your paychecks, and so you ended up short at the end of the year.
I am surprised this didn’t happen to a lot more people.
I believe the IRS does a random sample of “little people”, just to remind the flock that they too may be called in for review. Keeps everybody in line.
I was audited because my alimony was TOO HIGH.
Even the IRS didn’t believe the b*tch got that much.
You post on FreeRepublic so why be surprised?
Did you receive 1099s? Did you file a schedule C? Did you pay the self-employment tax that would be due on 1099 income?
Decades ago, I received a letter from the IRS informing me that the amount of my return was not what I claimed. The corrected amount was the exact same amount that I claimed. Still never figured that one out.
I love how people think they’re cheating the government when they get a refund check.
Guess what, the government cheated on you, you gave them an interest-free loan.
With all this new information on the IRS and NSA..makes you wonder now doesn´t it.....if you were audited because of your political thoughts....
I just realized I am gulaging in place...
Wait, what? I cheated? No, my biggest issue was not keeping a paper trail on the work I did for a local small business. Trying to decide if it’s work the effort to go back to the state I lived in then (and had lived there for my entire life) or just pay them.
Cost vs gain (other than a big FU) will probably mean I will pay them. In installments.
And thanks for accusing me of being a cheat and/or crook.
