"Terminator" to get a trilogy reboot
CBS ^

Posted on 06/28/2013 6:44:21 AM PDT by Perdogg

It will be back. The "Terminator," that is.

The franchise is getting a reboot, Paramount announced Thursday, with three new films set to roll out soon. There's no official word on whether Arnold Schwarzenegger, 65, will resume the title role, but according to the Los Angeles Times, insiders say the actor is expected to be involved in the films in some way.

Schwarzenegger played the lead role of a robotic assassin in the first movie, released in 1984. The original film and its sequels earned more than $1 billion at the box office worldwide.

>> Can’t think of anything new so they haul out the oldies and remake them. Then they think the public will pay $50 to see them??? <<

Sadly, the public will. They just decided to make a "dark and gritty" rehash of Superman I & II rather a new Superman storyline, and even a bunch of freepers were praising that soutlless Transformers wannabe. Superman II was fine and didn't need to be "reimagined". The Spider-Man "reboot" was even worse -- they were remaking a movie that only came out 10 years ago and was done perfectly fine the first time around.

I wish people would stop paying money for these lazy warmed over storylines. The new Star Trek film was working fine as its own story in the first half the film, then they just HAD to recycle stuff from Wrath of Khan. If you try to copy Wrath of Khan, you're going to fall short no matter what you do.

Hollywood has always recycled ideas but they're really starting to nuke the fringe lately. Now they're remaking Carrie after they JUST remade it 10 years ago. ENOUGH ALREADY!

Sometimes remakes are better.
Usually they are not.
The USA networks remake of Moby Dick is so superior to the original it is stunning, and they made it for TV!

That pic reminds me.
When I was a kid some muscle guy stole my girl while we were on the beach.
I was dejected but determined to get here back.
I had noticed that chicks were always hanging around the life guard so I asked him for advice.

He said “you got to get pumped up! Get buff! lift some weights!”

I did. Man I hit the weights hard. I was getting pumped up but I still didnt get any of the girls attention.

I lamented my situation to the life guard once more, and he advised I put a potato in my swim trunks.

I went to the store and bought the BIGGEST BOISE SPUD I could find and returned to the beach.

Now the Chicks were actively fleeing!

Panicked I run to the lifeguard and blurted “whats wrong!?”

He replied ... “put the potato in the front”

Ahnold looks like the potato is in the back LOL

I'd say they're only better than the original 5 to 10% of the time.

There are only two legitimate reasons to remake a movie:

1) The original version did not do justice to the source material and was widely panned and a disappointment (for example, if you wanted to remake Bonfire of the Vanities, I wouldn't have a problem with it, since nobody liked the 1990 movie)

2) The original version was popular it is day, but now it's hopelessly dated and the general public either doesn't know it exists, or has no interest in seeing it (for example, if you wanted to remake Machine-Gun Kelly (1958), I don't have a problem with it, as nobody watches the original anymore.

Anything else is just a lazy cash grab. If the original film is a timeless classic and still popular with audiences, don't touch it. We don't need remakes of Superman II or Robocop.

Why not un-earth another “Moldy Oldie” to add to this miasma?

Take the idea of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ and add three hot teen actresses to play young Terminators.

Add them to the plot line with either Summer Glau’s Cameron or Lena Headey’s Sarah Connor playing the vocal role(s)of “Charlie”. Sending out the young Terminators do their best to destroy SkyNet.

Just a thought.

Some movies require a trilogy format to tell the story effectivly.
The Lord of the rings comes to mind.

Terminator is not a movie that needs a trilogy format.

They're going to replace travel through time with travel through... SPACE! Imagine that.

Funny thing is, travelling "through" time requires travelling "through" space. Want to go to the past? You would have to go to where the earth "was" at that point in time first. We are not "static" in the universe; actually, we're hauling ass through the universe.

Hmmmm. I like it. Never thought of that! Thanks for the headache!

Less Schwartz, more Glau.

I really liked "The Sarah Connor Chronicles", and was sorry to see the series cancelled. I would love to see that made into a series of movies.

Bring back Jeanette Goldstein (Pvt. Vazques from ‘Aliens’ and young John Connor’s evil robot step mom in ‘Terminator 2’) as the house mother.

Or Connie Sellecca from ‘The Greatest American Hero’.

Better than that - do a remake of “It’s A Wonderful Life” where Bert and Ernie are a “couple” (trivia - where Bert and Ernie’s name came from for Sesame Street)

There’s only one first one.

The concept of “The Terminator” was new. Having Kyle Reese explain to Sarah Conner and later to the cops things like “Listen, and understand! That Terminator is out there! It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!” and to the cops “SHUT UP! You still don’t get it, do you?! He’ll find her! That’s what he does! It’s all he does! You can’t stop him! He’ll wade through you, reach down her throat, and pull her f**king heart out!!”

Ya can’t do those moments again.

District 9. Great movie. Original. Sci-Fi. Setting is in South Africa.

There's lot of things Hollywood could do. But they prefer to play it safe and get all the $$$.

But Hollywood can't do that forever. Look at AMC, HBO and the like producing top quality entertainment.

It wasn’t a reboot, just a prequel.
