An Indian airline has hit on possibly the worthiest excuse yet for hiring slim women as cabin crew -- it saves fuel and therefore money.
While some airlines admit to hiring women for their sex appeal, budget carrier GoAir has told The Times of India it will be hiring predominantly female flight attendants in future because they are 15-20 kilos lighter on average than men.

I think the whole airline business could do with a bit of rejeuvenation myself. Most of the flight attendants I see on Delta (aside from the obviously gay male attendants) can only be described as “those middle-aged spreading women with an attitude of the ex-wife type demeanor undergoing menopause.... seriously unpleasant to deal with.
I think that’s really bright of them.
Ever notice on cruise ships? A real lot of staff is Phillipino. Some have speculated their size is a plus for providing for the crew’s needs.
If it’s a nickel per kilo per hour, figure 1000 flight hours per year per attendant, or $50 for every kilo overweight.
The solution is not to discriminate, but to have a weight surcharge so that tinier FAs get more pay than heavier ones.
Compared to a 100 lb gal, a 210 lb guy would be paid $5500 less. Probably enough difference to seek work elsewhere given India discount air carrier salaries.
I think the Philipino cruise ship crew popularity is cultural, in that it is both an admired pursuit for Dad (or Mom) to go off to sea, and send back some good money to support the family. Plus, they tend to be very personable and hospitable, making them valued service employees. Also, musical talent is fostered, and many of the musicians are Philipino.
What are they intending to do? Burn the women as an alternative fuel source?
the part that bugs me is that I weight 145 lbs, and if I carry baggage over 50 lbs, there is a penalty....but if the next passenger weights in at 200 lbs and has 50 lb they are free to go....
Every 28 days one of them has to stay home.

Actually, I think a whole lot of Delta Flight Attendants are way past that “28 day” thing....
I fly and I pay the now-obligatory $25 fee for my baggage. It pisses me off to no end when some low-rent once in a lifetime flier or just plain cheapass holds up boarding because they can’t find room for their frigging whole-house ‘carry on’ and have to plane-side check it, at no charge, of course....pisses me off to no end.
So, they save the equivalent of 6 gallons of fuel? Retarded. Simply retarded.

I did 68 to 76. In 1971 when my dad died, I flew across the Pacific to HI on a 141 in web seating (butt and back) with my feet and legs straddled across a classified jet engine (covered) and leaking internal fuel. Crew had to turn on the smoking lamp and turn down the cargo temperature to near freezing. Landed at Norton AFB and TMO guy says, “I gotta C130 headed right now to Dobbins AFB and you’re on it”....I said no thanks, point me to LAX.
I wearily made it to LAX and asked the Delta Airlines tickey guy for a seat. He said “Go standby - nobody on this plane.” Okay I says.
It was a beautiful 747, stewardesses (they called them that then) were amazing and good looking. It was a “red eye” but I’m not sure that term was en vogue at that time.
The plane had maybe 10 pax...I had the whole damned rear end of the plane and I bagged (after a good amount of liquor) out on a row of 5 seats in the middle and slept the whole time. Best damned $64 bucks I ever spent
Multiply that times the number of attendants and flights per year.
One of my recent flights........crew let’s a guy come running on at the last minute, seats him in an empty front seat and puts his oversized luggage in the empty seat next to him. I was in the next row and fuming.
