One neuroscientist may soon get the nickname Dr. Frankenstein after making an ambitious claim about a completely novel medical procedure that has many experts heads spinning.
In a recent paper in the journal Surgical Neurology International, Dr. Sergio Canevero, a member of the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group, asserted that it soon may be possible to conduct full human head transplants, noting that they have been done in animals for the past 40 years, Quartz reported.
According to Canevero, the technical barriers that come with grafting one individuals head to another persons body can now be overcome. However, the main issue scientists have had with animal head transplants has been being unable to connect the spinal cord of the head to the donors body. This leaves the animal paralyzed from the neck down.
But recent medical advancements regarding the reconnection of surgically severed spinal cords has lead Canevero to believe the procedure can be done.

I would not assume that everything that makes you you is stored in your head.
Will they walk like Frankenstein?
Can Obama get a brain transplant? Even a cow flop would be an improvement. And how about a spine for Boehner.
I believe i have seen this movie.
How did I guess a Joe Biden reference was going to make it in here?? LOL
“Puttin’ on the Ritz”
Of course it will be tried. Some mad scientist will try it and will have hundreds of failures. One day a monster will survive and the scientist will become famous. The media love the “first” of everything.
I guarantee that some mad scientist is even now trying to create human clones.
Put the two together, and you have a clone factory for a new body in case yours needs replacing.
THIS is madness.
First I read “full human head transplants . . . have been done in animals for the past 40 years”.
Then, the rest of the story -
“However, the main issue scientists have had with animal head transplants has been being unable to connect the spinal cord of the head to the donors body. This leaves the animal paralyzed from the neck down.”
Spinal cord repair is the bigger story here
Basically, it’s a way of taking a head from a dying body, and using the body of another person to keep it alive.
It’s good on Ritz?!?!
Just in time for Obamacare! Yippee~!
All those Chinese prisoners are now potential body donors.
The headline made me think of that movie with NFL player Rosie Greer. He was a huge guy with two heads riding around on a motorcycle. I can’t remember the name of the movie.
I want Angelina Jolie’s.
I remember back in the 50’s. when a Russian scientist transplanted an extra head onto a healthy dog, thus making a two-headed dog.
