Poll: Should Canada buy Detroit?
Global News ^ | July 18, 2013 | David Weisz

TORONTO – Detroit made history Thursday afternoon becoming the largest city in U.S. history to file for bankruptcy. If the bankruptcy filing is approved, the city’s assets may be liquidated in a massive auction to repay the city’s estimated $14-20 billion debt. But rather than seeing the former hub of North America’s automotive industry picked clean by creditors, Global News puts forth another suggestion:

What if Canada just buys Detroit, warts and all?

I’m sure Celine Dion has skills, they are not available for public display. ;-)

This is why we lost that war.

We lost the war of 1812?

Yep. The peace treaty stipulated that you had to take Detroit back.

Former Journey frontman Steve Perry pleads poetic license, and ignorance, despite the fact that a quick glance at a map would have alerted him to the issue. "I ran the phonetics of east, west, and north, but nothing sounded as good or emotionally true to me as South Detroit," he says. "The syntax just sounded right. I fell in love with the line. It’s only been in the last few years that I’ve learned that there is no South Detroit. But it doesn’t matter."

Somebody asked me that question back in 1981, I think. I had no idea what he was talking about, because there is no South Detroit. I guess Journey needed that one extra syllable.

Gotta get rid of the voters who elected them as well. The fools there keep electing the people who make a mess of things, no matter the results.

“Actually I would punish them for foisting Celine Dion on us.”

But they did give us Rush, so that sort of balances out.

I'd buy Detroit for a dollar, and have the city fiscally in the black in one year.

The only thing I would require is a Blackwater detail.

You’re right. There’s no way they could ever atone for Beiber. So give ‘em Detroit, Chicago, and San Fagcisco.
