A 2-year-old girl is recovering after she was bitten and dragged by a coyote at a Southern California cemetery.

The Orange County Register reports Klarissa Barrera, of Long Beach, was given a rabies shot and treated for a 2 1/2-inch gash on her calf.

She was attacked 10 feet from her mother Thursday as the family visited a relative's grave at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress.

I wonder if the cats kill the mice et al that the snakes live upon more efficiently than the snakes do, so the snakes relocate.

“Never” is a strong word. Coyotes do not generally confront as they are cowardly in nature. If they are going after people it’s because:

A-They’re rabid.
B-They’ve lost their fear of humans so no longer associate danger with them.

One tidbit from here in Texas is that the rural coyote population seems to be in decline. However, the suburban coyote population is booming as it seems that major parts of the formerly rural coyote population is moving toward large population centers. Coyotes are scavengers first and foremost so the veritable bounty of the suburbs is drawing them in and into more direct confrontation with humans. Vast garbage dumps, everyone’s back alley littered with plastic bags on trash day, so on. It’s easy to make a living there when compared to chasing down rats and rabbits out in a pasture somewhere.

Coyotes and Raccoons are sometimes better mothers than humans.

What is not amusing is all the city folk who think that coons are cute cuddly little things. They are nasty, germ ridden vermin and eat everything in sight. I kill them on site.

Ask our Governor. He shot one while jogging a few years ago.

Yes. Cats actually kill very few snakes.

Here in central and west Texas there are more coyotes than you can shake a stick at.

I’ve seen coyotes between the active runways at LAX! Lots of rabbits there.

Eagles may soar but weasels coyotes don't get sucked into jet engines...

Coyotes near people should be killed by people. Coyotes out in the wild should be killed by wolves. There’s just no place for coyotes.

If it weren't for coyotes, we'd still have dinosaurs.

Every time you don't get eaten by a T. Rex or mob of velociraptors, thank a coyote...

So did this ‘yote sneak up completely unnoticed and grab the kid? Or maybe the family thought it was cute and let it get too close. In SoCal, I suspect the latter.

Buffalo Bayou runs through the middle of Houston, we have coyotes right in the middle of the city. I had heard that they were here and ate cats and small dogs but I was doubtful. Until the day I saw one for myself in the middle of the day in Tanglewood, a upscale inner city neighborhood.

Coyotes that are used to people. Not good.

I wonder is some in that suburban neighborhood see coyotes as "doggies" and feed them.

A Wrist-Rocket sling shot will also do a good job on Coyotes

Blue helmets, too; that's why they are illegal in about seventeen states! < /sarc >

Cats and snakes hunt for the same food. More cats = less snakes.
