A quirky Brooklyn model died early yesterday after he drunkenly stumbled onto a subway track’s electric third rail while urinating in Williamsburg, law-enforcement sources said.

Not a real intelligent thing to do.... When I was sixteen y.o. I was hunting pheasant after a snow storm and it came a point at the end of a field, I had to pzzzz real bad. Urinating on the electric third rail of a train track can cause electrocution.

Although it is possible to electrocute yourself by urinating on a third rail, you would have to stand unrealistically close to the rail to do it. In most instances, a urine stream would break into droplets before making contact with the rail.

(This concept was tested with an electric fence in episode 14 and that version of the myth was confirmed. Distance is the key.)

A buddy of mine who was in the Corps tells me when he was stationed in South Korea, they used to pull a prank where they’d wire a large battery to the metal urinals. Not enough to seriously hurt anyone, but enough to make the next poor sucker using it to take notice.

Dunno if he was yanking my chain about that or not, but your post reminded me of it.

I watched the 4-min clip; hilarious. I remember one of our scoutmasters in the 50s, tell us not to pee on a electric fence, so I never did. Whizzing on a charged rail never even occurred to me. Heh.
