That area is beautiful...and very close to WONDERFUL St Augustine.

When the kids get older that will be a terrific day trip.

The twins belong to my eldest grandson and his wife..
Navy grandson and his wife don’t have any youngsters..though they hope to.
I will be sure and tell them about St Augustine.

There are all kinds of cool attractions there, plus a beautiful beach!

I would ride five hours on my Harley to go there, and have done it more than once! :-)

My favorite place is the Old Fort. Since it is the oldest city in the USA, there are over 500 years of history to explore!

Kitty, what breathtaking tulips!! Love that color.

Our weather here in the California central valley is so much like many parts of Texas. Hot and dry all summer. I do love the heat so much more than the damp cold of winter. But even I have my limits. July has been extremely hot here. August probably won't be much different.

Sending you cyber hugs! Hope all is well with you and yours. :-)

Snapping, Snarling Thoughts

August 1, 2013

Many years ago, my father and I hiked through Big Bend in Texas. It’s a national park now, but in those days it was rough country.

One night we were rolling out our sleeping bags when a couple with a dog asked if they could camp nearby. We welcomed their company and turned in for the night. They tethered their dog to a stake beside their tent.

Some hours later my father nudged me awake and turned his flashlight into the darkness. Illuminated by the light, we saw pairs of yellow eyes peering out of the shadows. A pack of snapping and snarling coyotes were closing in on the dog. Although we chased them off and our neighbors put the dog in their tent, we slept fitfully.

I think of that night when I read Psalm 59 and David’s twice-repeated imagery: “At evening they return, they growl like a dog” (vv.6,14). David was thinking of Saul’s army that was closing in on him. I think, however, of the thoughts that return to menace us. They come back at nightfall, snapping and snarling: “You’re stupid.” “You’re a failure.” “You’re useless.” “Who needs you?”

When we have such thoughts, we can revel in God’s unconditional, unending love. His steady devotion is our refuge in the dark night of self-doubt and fear (v.16).

Dear Lord, I am so thankful that You love me
unconditionally. Please chase away destructive thoughts
that keep returning to take away my confidence in You
and Your work in me. I want to rest in You and Your love.
Knowing that God loves us can dispel doubt.

Read: Psalm 59

You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble. —Psalm 59:16
Bible in a Year:
Psalms 57-59; Romans 4

Yea! good to see you putting up the thread while Amy vacations!
I post the Porch first of the month also & try to always check in here at that time as my memory is jolted a bit.

and memory... HTML.. If I had to do one of our LONG daily openings from the Finest I think I would be hard pressed. I recall the hours each day to do those things. It was fun but difficult & just one little bitty “oppsy” and your thread was a super mess.

Now to read the thread

Love to all
