And LOVED when we were stationed at Mayport. We lived at Neptune Beach .. 5 min walk from beach & I taught at the high school there. Hubby was on Shangri La, now decommissioned

Ponte Vedre, St.Augestine, Kayaking the backwaters, biking the beach roads..so many good memories.

and memory... HTML.. If I had to do one of our LONG daily openings from the Finest I think I would be hard pressed. I recall the hours each day to do those things. It was fun but difficult & just one little bitty “oppsy” and your thread was a super mess.

I have forgotten so much! HTML is one of those things that you need to do often or you forget how. Thank goodness Amy has the code for the opening saved. All I had to do was copy and paste. I would hate to have to hand code all of that again! I remember one particular evening when I needed to post a thread at the Finest and my code was a total mess. I could not find my error. I spent hours on it and come to find out it was one little center command out of place that messed up all the tables. So frustrating!

Thanks for stopping by Dolly. You are one of the busiest people I know. I sure can't keep up with you! Have a great August!

Pass It On

August 2, 2013

I’ve noticed through the years that those who have suffered are quick to comfort other sufferers. When a young couple suffers the loss of a child, another couple who also lost a child in the past asks if they can help. If a couple loses their main income, almost immediately another couple steps forward to offer their aid, remembering their own journey through foreclosure years earlier. Again and again we see the body of Christ supporting and encouraging one another. These Christians have learned that they can use the trials they’ve been through to reach out to others going through similar difficulties.

Have you been sick? Lost a loved one? Been imprisoned? Unfairly treated? In all of our trials, God promises to bring something good out of even our darkest moments (James 1:2-4). One key way this takes place is when we share the comfort He offered us with those who are now going through trials.

As Paul points out in 2 Corinthians 1:3-7, we are comforted by a Savior who knows our suffering, and we honor Him when we pass His comfort on to still others.

May we never leave someone to suffer alone. If we know the trail another is on, God will help us to guide that person to His presence—the surest comfort of all.

Dear Lord, help us to step forward when
others around us are suffering trials similar to
what we’ve been through. Enable us to be a
comfort, as You have been to us in the past.
God comforts us so that we can comfort others.

Read: 2 Corinthians 1:3-7

As you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation. —2 Corinthians 1:7

It is often said ... we do not know what tomorrow will bring. We have fears, uncertainties, and seemingly difficult challenges, illness, job loss, etc. God is always there for believers coming to Him. We are to rest on the certainty, God is for us and has plans for us. Let us rest in His assurance.

Thank Thee LORD for thy grace, love, mercy, goodness, blessings, everlasting eternal security, in Jesus name amen.

To me it is sad that today’s churches have stopped many of the basics the church taught and did for many years. It deprives todays youths of security and faith. All in an attempt to not do ‘old fashioned’ teachings.
God and His Word is NEVER ‘old fashioned’.
It is alive and vital to hear and obey. MOO!

Agreed 100%

Too many Churches have gone astray of Biblical teachings and teaching the Word of God and Jesus. Even when they say a prayer they say, in “your name”. Jesus said to pray in MY name which is of course Christ Jesus.

Maybe I’m just too Conservative to stay the course.

101? That’s hot even for Texas.

We get the 90’s all the time here, but it usually doesn’t go that high.

BUT we have the HUMIDITY! EYEW.

Corine

August 3, 2013

A group of us were helping to put together packets of material at an Our Daily Bread event in Orlando last winter when Corine greeted us. It was mid-morning, and she was sure we must be hungry and thirsty. I told her we were “fine,” and she replied, “I know you’re fine, but you need something to eat.” A few minutes later she came back with cold water and snacks.

Throughout the 2 days we were there, Corine came by to check on us, bring us food or water, and take away our trash. On one occasion, I thanked her and said, “You have the gift of hospitality, don’t you, Corine!” She looked down and replied, “I don’t know. But you write the devotional articles, and I’ll clean up. And God will be glorified.”

Corine’s desire is to bring God glory by helping people. She definitely has the gift of hospitality and practices it well. God has graced each of His children with skills and abilities so that He can minister to others through us. You can find those gifts listed in Romans 12:4-13, 1 Corinthians 12:27-31, Ephesians 4:7-12, and 1 Peter 4:9-11.

The Lord has gifted us “that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever” (1 Peter 4:11).

All Christians have been gifted
By grace from God above,
Equipped to build and strengthen
The church in faith and love. —Fitzhugh
You are one of a kind— designed to glorify God as only you can.

Read: 1 Peter 4:7-11

Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. —1 Peter 4:9

Have you ever been stuck at a party, where a loud and brash “progressive” dominates the conversation, not allowing anyone to get a word in edgewise, and with whom you dare to disagree strictly at your own peril?

It’s happened to me enough times that I occasionally have weird dreams about it.

The Woman, Whose Head Turned to Guacamole - ©2013 by Trevor Patrick

Excuse me for a moment while I tell you a tale,
that came from a feverish dream.
So, I hope you’ll excuse the odd flights of fancy,
from places filled with nonsense scenes.

The first thing I remember was that I was at a party:
You know the type - filled with College folks and hipsters;
where the loudest progressives hold forth,
and always dominate the floor,
Never seeming to care who’s really listening.

Actually, that’s not fair.
The real truth’s clear as a bell;
because when you’re talking to hear yourself talk,
The listener you’re most impressing is yourself.

As for me: I was skarfing down some nachos,
and bored right out of my tree,
when the Queen Bee of the party,
decided to turn her stinger towards me.

Every angry buzz was an ‘ism’,
and every new sting an ‘ist’,
each followed by a rhetorical question,
about why ‘ist’ and ‘ism’ dinosaurs like me still exist.

I just stifled a yawn at it all,
wishing I’d spent the evening bowling,
and as I looked at the angry Goddess once again,
her face morphed into oozing guacamole.

Not a whole avocado, mind you,
though slightly more logical it may have been,
because I understood the truth all too well,
that she’d have needed a thicker skin.

Without even thinking,
I stuck a corn chip in her nose,
and through her goop-dripping mouth,
she said: ‘I’m vegan, don’t you know!’

Rolling my eyes because I’d already guessed that,
I nevertheless crunched the chip and took the first taste,
and I kept on staring with morbid fascination,
at the new crater on her green and goopy face.

I managed one mouthful of her avocado-paste head,
before spitting the half-chewed mess into my hand,
because the Queen Bee’s face-guacamole,
was just like her personality:
It tasted both spoiled, and bland.
