A U.S. business owner was killed in Thailand after going onstage to sing with a band.

What was supposed to be a fun vacation in Bangkok turned into a nightmare for one family.

Bobby Ray Carter, 51, of Texas, his wife Kelly, and their 18-month-old daughter Sadie, traveled to Thailand to celebrate Mr. Carter’s birthday. The Carters were meeting up with several other couples including Carter's adult son. The group went out to the Longhorn Saloon bar at the Ao Nang beach in Krabi province in Thailand.

If John Lennon had been killed at a concert in a bar one of the dozens of times he was a drunken/coked out a$$hole, would his “untimely death” have been any more justified?

Bad life choices all around. Jail in Thailand is no joke. The band members will spend a long time there. As long as they manage to survive (which won’t be very long).

And Mr. Carter is dead.

As I said, bad life choices all around.

The first time I went to Bangkok I ate in a restaurant that had a solo singer doing a set of Beatles numbers. Strange and stranger. Satay and Lesterday. I wouldn’t have joined him, but not really a murderer’s den, either.

Sounds like he was permitted up there (and had apparently tipped to do so). Band wanted him to leave after a few songs to permit others to come on stage.

The dustup came when he and his son demanded their tips back.

Now it is unclear just how substantial these tips were. I’ve seen $50 and $100 tips to bands to get immediate results on a request.

Ooops. Contradicted myself. What i meant is that they’ll be given long sentences that they won’t live through.

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, President Obama, and MSNBC haven't been heard commenting on this murder yet.

He was white. White people’s lives mean less than nothing to those racist azzholes, so of course they won’t say anything.

That's an odd analogy. John was a drunken asshole a couple of times in LA, but being a drunken asshole in a foreign culture where nobody knows you is quite a bit different. I'm not saying the murder of this guy was justified, only that the analogy doesn't fit.

This is not the first incident of this type in the Far East - yellow man takes his karaoke seriously, you’d better watch out and practice your Barry Manilow reportoire before venturing out there!

Americans have always been viewed as arrogant. As a spectator, I have always seen them more as clueless, undisciplined and totally ignorant of basic manners.
In the 1950s we had the "Ugly American."

In 2013 we have the "Clueless American." Officially.

Should he have been killed? Absolutely not!
Could he have used better judgment and avoided the personal tragedy? Absolutely.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Sheesh, did anyone on this thread watch the news report?

Stabbed dead because the band didn't want to hear the father / son duo sing after tipping the band several times...???? The Tai police didn't so squat.

John showed that personality trait throughout his life (Germany, London, and LA). Hardly a weekend bender while he was out on the town with bad boys during his split from Yoko and his band.

Instant Karma might’ve caught up with John if a deranged fan hadn’t.

The “wise” “man of peace” BS ascribed to John Lennon is mythology.

” After a few songs, the musicians insisted that Carter sit down and give other people a chance to sing. Carter, who was said to be drunk, refused to leave the stage, according to Lieutenant Jongrak Pimthong.

The band stopped playing. Carter and his 27-year-old son Adam asked for their tips back. That is when they got into a heated argument with the musicians.
The fight continued outside ...”

The musicians were arrested on murder charges . WTF are you talking about ?
