The deputy allegedly sprayed the pizza without the teen's knowledge
An Orange County Sheriffs deputy is facing jail time after being accused of pepper spraying a teen's pizza without his knowledge during a traffic stop last year, prosecutors said.
Juan Tavera, a six-year veteran of the Orange County Sheriffs Department at the time of the alleged crime, faces one year in jail if convicted of spraying the pizza and ultimately sickening five people who ate it, according to a release by the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
Tavera, 30, allegedly pulled over a 19-year-old named as John Doe for a traffic violation on Sept. 8, 2012, when he noticed a pizza in the back seat and pepper sprayed it without the teen noticing, the release stated.
The teen returned home to share the pizza with four friends, and all five people became sick as a result of ingesting the pepper spray-contaminated pie. He became suspicious and notified the sheriffs department of his interaction with the deputy, the DA's office said.
Tavera is charged with misdemeanor assault or battery by a public officer and is set to be arraigned Monday in Newport Beach.
He is currently on paid administrative leave.
When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie
Thats amore
But when the pie makes you cry and the cop is at fault
Thats assault
“This food is too bland officer”
“Most snakes can’t wear pink, but it works for you”
LOL
“thilly thnakes”
That looks like...nevermind.
Try a search for the “donutwatch” keyword.
He could see assault pepperoni in plane sight.
What are you droning on about?
Dat right dere is funny.
“Or is the 19 year old crying wolf to get the officer fired for pulling him over? Not that hard to get your hands on pepper spray.”
Nope... And it’s stupid to even suggest that.
One officer pulled him over, this one showed up later for some reason and inexplicably (and allegedly) added the special sauce.
Oops, I was going from memory from the more widely circulated article I saw in the SF Chronicle this morning. That’s an absolute contradiction between these two reports.
Not as sinister as you’re thinking. It’s just a placeholder in this case as it is in many cases until it gets to trial.
Like how you manage to pepper spray a pizza in the back seat without the driver noticing?
Even if the back window is open you still have to reach in and open the box, spray the pizza and then close it back up.
Details, details.....
As someone else suggested, it sounds more like retaliation for the cop pulling him over, or it could have been someone at the pizza place.
It is supposed to be innocent until proved guilty.
Yeah, I’m not buying this one just yet.
“How is this any different than some kid messing with their food at a drive up window?”
Compare and contrast: in one way it is the same, as it is contaminating food, but then there’s the difference between a “kid” and an “adult”; and also the little difference that police are sworn to uphold the law.
So I’d say the differences outweigh the similarities and anybody this immature doesn’t need to be getting a paycheck from the public to carry a badge and a gun.
LOL, great shot!
LOL, cute.
Most likely contributive childishness. I would imagine the teen was acting the jerk and the cope reacted like a child.
