Mystery Creature Sighting Stuns N.J. Town; No One Has First Clue What It Is

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – There has been a strange sighting of a strange creature in a suburban New Jersey town – and pictures of it have residents asking “What the heck is that?”

CBS 2’s John Slattery was working the day watch out of Manhattan, when his boss gave him this juicy assignment.

He took a vehicle out of Midtown. The sighting happened on Friday. He and his cameraman headed for the leafy community of Ridgewood, which was apparently being terrorized by an odd creature that lurks in and out of storm drains.

Slattery obtained video of the creature from a resident, but, like CBS 2’s reporter, was mystified.

“I saw a strange animal in the front yard,” witness Rob Lyons said.

Lyons had the presence of mind to shoot a picture of the creature on his smartphone.

Those pictures are so sad! Red foxes are such neat little guys... we had a family of them living at the edge of the woods on our farm at one point and thought them to be good luck, seeing as we had hunter/jumper horses. Tally-ho and View Halloo! And they do sort of prance around like cats... I love to watch them hunting field mice.

3rd from left, top row of those thumbnails pretty well nails it, even as to size. And a fox can show a sort of cat-like movement more than a dogs or coyote does, which fits the witnesses description..

Did you ever watch the movie documentary “Six days til air” about the making of an episode of South Park?

OMG it was even more hilarious than an actual show

I wish they would record how they make an episode every week

For the last time, it wasn’t me in the Jersey Devil suit.

And the rumors about a bet that a human could be more convincing in a Jersey Devil suit than a doberman are completely unfounded!

Mystery Creature Sighting Stuns N.J. Town

The town wouldn't happen to be called "Grover's Mill", would it?

Could it be a Squonk?

I think only Steely Dan or Genesis fans would know what a Squonk is.

A small mythical creature who disappears because of his own tears?

The Squonk is of a very retiring disposition and due to its ugliness, weeps constantly. It is easy prey for hunters who simply follow a tear-stained trail. When cornered it will dissolve itself into tears.

True or False?

True! Big Genesis fan here. I saw them at Madison Square Garden back in the early 90’s.

Funny story....I sat behind three young girls from Lon Ghisland who were bopping and rocking to “Invisible Touch” which was a big hit at the time. Later in the show I stood and yelled like a maniac when the band broke into “Apocolypse in 9/8” and the girls looked at each other and said “I don’t know this one...do you know this one?”

Got a big kick out of that.
