The video reminds me of the way it seems in the USA.

All is tranquil seemingly, but there is a storm raging that, sooner or later, will breach the wall of tranquility.

Surprised there were not a few morons up on the rocks to get swept over like happens on Oahu’s North Shore every winter.

One of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time. And a way for average people to enjoy the power of the sea without being in any real danger.

Wouldn’t bet on that one, Steve.

That’s the beach we take our toddler to, because it’s so safe...usually.

I was not able to locate any descriptions of injuries or drownings that occurred in the pool (not sure about up on the rocks), although one would be wise to avoid the area during a full-fledged storm or certainly hurricane in the area. In 2010 waves did crest the cliff and destroy buildings above the beach, but there were warnings at the time.

How often do waves (harmlessly) break over the rocks as in the video? The local surf is generally much too calm for that, no? I guess it is going to take a significant storm somewhere to make those big northwest swells, but the wave sizes should be fairly predictable.

Meant swells from the north, not northwest.

Many people do not understand the power and danger of moving water.

Rarely. This video must be two or three years old, when we had an unusual gigantic swell stirred up by a storm far off in the Northern Atlantic, like you said. It was so bad that they closed San Juan harbor for a while. And yes, for events like this there is always ample warning. It’s just that some people don’t believe it until they see it for themselves.

Yeah, well, if you stopped downing a bottle of Viagra and running around the pool in a Speedo, we wouldn’t have to worry about that.
