Wouldn’t a purebred Aussie do? They are only a tad larger, somewhat less hyper and practically as smart. Most importantly, they have a similar herding dog mentality, which I adore.

My father in law trains border collies for a living. He’s located near Bowling Green KY. He breeds a few litters a year.
Most are black and white though.

patience and repetitiveness, they will pick it up, my grandfather had a mutt that learned how to shut the back door when he came in, in about 3 weeks. He knew how to open it, but constantly left it open, so my grandfather repeatedly walked him back to the kitchen, held him up to the door with his paws and said” shut the door”...then after a few weeks of the same routine, the day came when my grandfather yell out to him “shut the door”...he did...a few weeks after that, you didn’t have to yell...*smiles*

Personally I think he puts the dogs well being in jeopardy having it do some of the stuff the dog does like jumping off a van and hanging from a rope with its teeth.Not to smart of the owner and IMOP pretty stupid.
My sister has bred BC’s for 35 years.She sells them all over the world and has placed and judged the international sheep trials in Scotland.
She is world renowned and wont sell a dog to some one that does not have acreage or wants one for there own ego.She screens her buyers better than some adoption agencies do potential parents of kids and from the city environment this guy @ the link lives in he would not get one of her dogs.

One of our best-ever dogs was a Border Collie mix. She did not seem to have “the eye” for working cattle because she was having too much fun with our kids, who were pre-schoolers at the time.
Until ... one day we went sledding in the cow pasture without penning up the cattle. They spooked and started running just as DD was heading down the hill on her sled.
I was afraid DD was going to get trampled before our eyes.
Like a shot that dog headed off the leader adn turned the whole bunch. Everybody was fine. She never showed that much ability for working cattle before or after.
She started to lose her hearing after a few years. Perhaps because of that she mis-judged DH driving the farm truck and he hit her. (He felt horribl and probably cried a little but hid it from the rest of us).
She ran back to the house crying and died in my arms.
Our current dog is an elderly 3rd-hand Blue Heeler. She has a lot of the same qualities as our beloved Susie but (usually) thinks things through. I guess that’s how she’s lived so long.
