Life DID begin on Mars - then we all travelled to Earth on a meteorite

It might not just be men who are from Mars, claims a new study which suggests that all life on Earth actually began on the red planet.

An element believed to be crucial to the origin of life would only have been available on the surface of Mars, it is claimed.

Geochemist Professor Steven Benner argues that the 'seeds' of life probably arrived on Earth in meteorites blasted off Mars by impacts or volcanic eruptions.

Professor Steven Benner will tell geochemists gathering today at the annual Goldschmidt conference that an oxidised mineral form of the element molybdenum, which may have been crucial to the origin of life, could only have been available on the surface of Mars and not on Earth As evidence he points to the oxidised mineral form of the element molybdenum, thought to be a catalyst that helped organic molecules develop into the first living structures.

Professor Benner will present his findings to geochemists gathering today at the annual Goldschmidt conference.

‘In addition recent studies show that these conditions, suitable for the origin of life, may still exist on Mars,’ said Professor Benner, of the Westheimer Institute for Science and Technology in Gainesville, Florida.

‘It’s only when molybdenum becomes highly oxidised that it is able to influence how early life formed.

‘This form of molybdenum couldn’t have been available on Earth at the time life first began, because three billion years ago the surface of the Earth had very little oxygen, but Mars did.

‘It’s yet another piece of evidence which makes it more likely life came to Earth on a Martian meteorite, rather than starting on this planet.’

* Molybdenum mineral is thought to have been crucial to the origin of life
* Material may have been available on the surface of Mars and not on Earth
* This could suggest that life came to Earth on a Martian meteorite

Say what you will about English "news" papers, you've got to admit their notion of "science" is considerably more creative than the same old anthropogenic global warming day in and day out in so many American "news" papers.

Creation...God: Nope not just happening here on Mars, not the right atmosphere, let me try Earth.

Creation...Two molybdenum: Hey dude this place is just not happening, lets hitch a ride and check out that blue planet...wadda ya say.

think, might, probably, may, possibly, perhaps... I think the scientist might have been guessing. In fact he probably was, and may possibly want to consider another line of work. Perhaps “science” isn’t his strong suit.

And you're obviously not a scientist or familiar with the scientific method and its foundation, testable hypotheses. Is he right? Who knows. But it attempts to explain observed phenomena and the scientific method will either confirm or reject it.

Not in the chemical context no, organic chemicals are not necessarily biological.

Meteor schmeteor. “They” brought it when they seeded the planet as theirs died. It was the Martian Genesis Project, aka The Lifeboat. Then a select number of them populated the reformed Earth. We’re all Martians. Geo. Nory told me. /s <—— do I really need this?

LOL!
That meteorite must have had some powerful rocket boosters to escape Mars’ gravity, and a pretty good GPS to find the grain of sand in the cosmos, earth.

but isn't the word "organic" associated only with living structures?

Originally yes, but word usage changes over time. Now when a chemist says "organic" it means the molecule contains carbon.

Well, some of us maybe.

Geeze, take the government grants away form these guys. They are real life “Sheldon Coopers” from the Big Bang Theory, who do their equations and speculate about non-provable theories. There’s a reason they are called “theoretical physicists. It’s all conjecture according to their math.
