Sandpoint is nice - a beautiful place on account of all you mentioned and more, except there are too many libs there (my former stepfather, his “wife”, two sons from his earliest marriage...)even for an expatriate Portlander like me, who only escaped the people’s socialist republic of Porn-land...
I’m a couple of hours S of you, at the confluence of the Snake and the Clearwater rivers, in the Lewiston-Clarkston valley. The scenery is not quite a match with my ideals, but I’ll take the “trade-off” of lots of nice conservative neighbors, a major bullet manufactory within 2 miles of my back door, over half the nation’s soft white winter wheat and lentils produced within a 100 mile radius, and heavily wooded areas that are less than an hour’s drive away...Not to mention Chinook, Steelhead, and Sturgeon fishing half a mile away...

My favorite European City....Amsterdam, hands down.
And when the SHTF happens everyone will feel exactly the same.
People who lived in Manhattan during the 40s would not recognize what the city became. My parents were (x)generation New Yorkers. By the mid-50s it was clear that the city was heading in a direction they didn’t like. Throw in the benefits of the G.I.bill, and they and about 50% of original New Yorkers left town.
It spiraled down till the 70s when my dear old dad said he’d never set foot in the city again, and didn’t. Too bad he didn’t live to see how well Rudy turned it around. Still, it’s too big, too crowded, too fast-paced for most people’s taste. And way too expensive.

OTOH, it has been my observation that the majority of city dwellers are most uncomfortable out in the open. They truly seem to prefer the anthill environment and will expound on it if you ask or question why they would want to live like that?
To many of us, being on a trail with no other soul in sight, or human structure, is most pleasant. The same totally freaks out many city dwellers. Similar thing being in the ocean with the water over your head. Some are comfortable, some freak out.
My picks: Paris, New York, London, Amsterdam. In that order.

Another vote for Sandpoint - I’m 10 miles south of there. New York is OK, San Francisco I love despite the people who live there, Tokyo is awesome, Seattle is exquisite, but they just don’t have that big-city sophistication you get in Sandpoint.
I think that mountain is over in Galena Park or something, I’m a little forgetful about the details, is it Pasadena, where Gilley’s Lounge used to be?
This being the internet I have to say of course I am joking, being from Houston myself, really, the summers are not all that cool.
