Can they do that? Arrest you for book burning?

Pastor Jones has a valid lawsuit against Polk County, I suspect. Or am I wrong?

If he decided to burn 2000 Bibles next week, they’d probably give him an open burn permit.

He is in the Polk County jail facing felony charges, so yes I would say they could.

Now if he had stated that he was going to burn copies of the Holy Bible, it would have been a horse of a different color. For that he would have received a police escort and a police guard.

If he decided to burn 2000 American flags, they'd probably five him a government grant, and Democrat politicians would be there to defend his right of free speech.

I know. But I suspect his actions are protected by the First Amendment - it doesn’t matter whether he burns Bibles, Qurans, or Cosmopolitan magazines!

American flags and Bibles are okay for burning. Just don’t be burning the Muzzie reader. The Political Correctness Police will throw your @$$ in jail.

I have read considerable portions of the koran. This would have been a very appropriate tribute to the victims of islamic terrorism. There are plenty of verses of wisdom copped from the Jewish Torah and Christian Bible. But the purely islamist verses are all criminal in nature and endorse the pillaging, plundering, raping, enslavement and murder of non muslims. It even includes an exemption for those who find murder distasteful, allowing the individual to lie to “infidels”, pretending friendship, but prohibits any muslim from sincerely befriending a Christian or Jew, or from working for a Christian or Jew. It is as vile as it gets. Terry Jones is a patriot and a hero. When our government officials say that islamic terrorists have “stolen” islam and corrupted it, they lie. The terrorists are purists who are actually following the dictates of mohammed.

“The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jones on felony charges of unlawful conveyance of fuel and open display of a firearm.”

"Can they do that?"

Huh? Are you thick? Why don't you go try to burn almost 3000 books on a summer day in a city park and see if your city cops don't put YOU in jail.

They would give him the Medal of Freedom.

You are at war. So are we.

Only if it violated a fire code.

Otherwise, he could argue that his Free Speech is being suppressed.

...the need to express love and tolerance for all faiths on Sept. 11.

What about the faith that burns Korans?
Why tolerate the faith that is murdering Coptic Christians for being non-Muslims?
Why be tolerant of a faith that has a death sentence for a woman for drinking a glass of water?
Should we tolerant of a faith that will not tolerate homosexuals? Or do we tolerate homosexuals who will not tolerate dissenters?
Can we not tolerate intolerance or is only intolerant tolerance not tolerated?
If we tolerate all faiths are we intolerant of all exclusive faith claims?

Can they arrest you for book burning?

Yes, if you douse the books in kerosine, throw them in a canister... then set down the road to the burn site on a public road. That’s not a political statement, that’s plum stupid.

Yeah it is hard for me to imagine what they arrested him for. I think if Jones is legally aggressive he might have some added funds for him ministry.

I knew Terry would be up to no good sooner or later, when I first saw him in Monty Python!

Among the charges against Jones was open-carry.

If he tries this next year he’s going to have to have several people involved. One to carry the books, another to carry the kerosine/diesel/gasoline, and another to bring the matches.
