Heck, George Jones used to regularly ride his lawn mower 20 miles or more to the nearest bar after his wives took his car keys away fro drinking too much.

If getting half loaded while mowing the lawn was a crime 30 years ago, my Dad would have been in jail every weekend . . . . . .

You cannot ride a lawn mower on a public road with a suspended license? Does that mean a 15 year old boy with no license cannot ride a lawn mower on a public road?

You can’t drive a lawn mower on a public road period.

Certainly not at 1:30 AM when you are drunk!

Since it's a motorized vehicle regardless of the horsepower, the answer is yes..........and the boy could also get a ticket for driving a motorized vehicle without a license plate.

It probably depends on the states, but in farm country "motorized vehicles" without plates are driven on public roads all of the time. I remember in CT 15 year olds could drive mopeds without plates in the 70s (energy "crisis" I), and I don't know anyone who gets a plate for a motorized bicycle.

That's pretty much a given........

There are exceptions in the motor vehicle codes for farm vehicles doing farm work, with the proper warning devices (reflective triangles, etc.).

None of which applies to driving home drunk over 6 miles at 1:30 AM on your riding lawn mower.

So, did he drive the 6 miles to wherever ON the mower and was just returning drunk with an open container?

That would be my presumption, yes.

There is a certain breed of drunkard that believes that, since he lost his driver’s license for DUI, it is perfectly OK to drive the lawn mower to the bar.

Most riding mowers are not “street legal” anyway.

You can get a DUI for floating down the Delaware River drunk on a log longer than 15’ long.... or something like that. At least on the NJ side.
